Im wanting to buy my gf an MP3 player for christmas but I dont know a whole lot about them.

What Im looking for is one that is very compact and has a memory stick. I have looked at a few but not sure which brand is the best bang for the buck.

The one I am leaning towards is made by Rio in the $160 range.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

If possible go for the samsung yepp (128mb) player. I think it is $200 but well worth it. I bought the Yepp 700h last x-mas and the software is great (has compression on it too if you want to convert larger mp3 files to lower qual ones, has a tuner in the remote and is expandable memory. The new samsung is very small and comes with a neck strap I believe.

    Good luck....

The Rio has been a good product in terms of reliability, I work in warranty and not many of those come back compared to other MP3 players.

The RCA Lyra's are actually very good low-capacity players. (64-256mb)

I used to sell them at Future Shop and we had only a few of hundreds ever come back. I'm normally not a fan of RCA, but they seemed to have built a decent product. The price is also very reasonable.

They use SD cards for expansion.

Yeah they are very good for an RCA product. I would never buy ANYTHING with an RCA name on it, but I would consider a Lyra if I was looking for one. They are pretty good sellers.
