Default Edmonton public meeting for Racing for a Cure

Below is an e-mail I received from the organizer of Race For A Cure. Please take a read and come out to show your support for this event.

    Racing for a Cure 2017

We have encountered a bit of resistance from a small group citizens of Edmonton who feel we are too noisy at our charity event that takes place on a Saturday afternoon in June.
The City of Edmonton was not going to allow us to hold the event within a specified area.
After almost 5 months of negotiations and reaching out to the Mayor's office, city counselors, and meetings with the deputy city manager the city has agreed to put this before the citizens.
The City of Edmonton civic events department is holding a public meeting to discuss this event.

The city is under obligation to invite the people who voiced complaints about the event.
Racing for a Cure and The Kids with Cancer Society need the city to see the positive effects of the event also represented in the room.
We need all the support we can get for this event to move forward in an encouraging manner.
We are looking for anyone who would like to help stand up for this charity event.

We would like if you could come and join our cause IN PERSON to support of the Kids with Cancer Society.

Wow...typical...I get the cars are loud but it's ONE day in the middle of the summer and it's for charity...kids with Cancer to boot.

I hate people and their self serving entitled BS. Turn up your music, put on head phones, go to the mall for christ sakes...it's ONE day.

I have gone to similar public meetings before and usually it's one or two old people tops...old enough that I am surprised they can even hear and they typically don't have much to say aside from stare at the ground and say things like "it's noisy...back in my day we had respect"

Argh...if I am still in the country I will definitely be there.

    Done!
I could hear the cars by U of A last year and essentially I followed my ears and ended up walking across the high level and watched the cars go thru the tunnel. What a cool experience!

It's not the only thing during the year that makes a little bit of noise and people living in these areas should be aware of this. Not like Jasper Ave etc are quite places some nights with bars and clubs etc. Or Jet Fighters going over city center during the parade, the races at the airport were audible in city center, the turbo props warming up at the air port were audible. None of this noise pollution is new. These people are not living in a quiet culdsac in some remote residential area.

Edit: Complaints like this remind me of when people who bought houses near the hospital in Drayton Valley decided to start complaing about the noise of the ambulances and the Stars helicopter... Well your the one who bought a house a 2 minute walk away from the Heli-Pad and it was built before your house was... what kind of noises did you expect to happen.

It's a great event. Why was it moved from Castrol?

People that oppose a charity event for children with cancer should have their names posted at the entrance, so people can see what pieces of shit they are.

It's ONE fucking day out of your life, and it raises hundreds of thousands of dollars. Go somewhere else for the day. Stay inside. GO DONATE AND WATCH, FFS.
