Mostly agreed with above sentiments, regarding UPS, tire rack and so on.

Avoid UPS unless tirerack. USPS, DHL, FedEx... in that order, in my experience.

Can you drive to the airport to pick them up? If so, you can self-clear and pay no brokerage fees, just duty and/or tax depending on where it was manufactured.

Or, I've had luck refusing to pay the brokerage fees when UPS/FedEx bills me and wait for it to go to collections. Then I phone the courier and complain I wasn't given the option to self-clear, and didn't want to pay for them to do my paperwork. They've always settled for the cost of the excise/duty/taxes.

Tire rack want 162US to ship me two tires. Surely that's a bit much?

It's UPS with all taxes and duty paid... About 3 years ago (I think)... I paid probably about $300-350ish for 4 tire/wheel combos, in my case shipping and everything all in it was still $600 cheaper then the same combo at Kal-tire.

It is a lot for two tires, but I bet their price on shipping 4 tires is virtually the same.

I have made a few transactions with TireRack. Everything is usually smooth sailing, they phone you to confirm your order, my orders have always been accurate and show up within a few days. Sometimes after duties/shipping/conversion my orders tend to be cheaper than shopping local.

My only complaint is that UPS won't hesitate to simply leave a new set of BBS' on my front step and then fuck off. As was the case last week. But that's not exactly TireRack's problem.

It is when they could easily make a signature a requirement if the customer wants.
