Thread: Floating/False Floor/Ceiling

    These are usually rated for 500+ pounds. Wouldn't these create the same stress? Or is it the fact that I want to be able to raise and lower it the issue?

    Good point, but a classic mistake. What they're selling you IS rated for that; but, they didn't sell you the trusses that it's attached to and they take zero responsibility for that.

    I my professional opinion.... If you don't mind doing drywall again I would cut that whole square out, reinforce it with braces that you will hook into that are also attached to a brace that will spread the load out side ways across multiple trusses in the roof.

    As for the original question. It's probably best to expose the roof trusses. Then maybe get an engineer in to inspect or design something to hold the weight. Or like others have said, attach to floor and Jack up.

    I would definitely have something engineered if i was suspending that kind of weight.

    I dont think there is any product which can be just bought and fit. Your motorcycle should weigh about 200 lbs at max. You may even consider hanging a ceiling fan there, if its too hot inside
    The best way would be to create an isolated box and attach a cable-pulley system. There could be 2 protection system, one it is attached to the ceiling and second would be rope holding it through the pulley. This would provide protection from it falling down

    That's really not correct. A bunch of friends have been trying to find corners to reduce weight on their 600CC bikes for racing and stock, they weigh something like 350lbs dry. Full with fuel and fluids is like 400 lbs. If OP has a harley, it'll be waaaaaaaaaay heavier.

    Lauren is from London, apparently. Spambot? Anyways... They don't have "motorcycles" in Britain, like we do here. lol. A typical "motorbike" in the UK probably is 200lbs max. They also drive G-Whiz's and shit.
