    Question LF: A reputable home builder

    Hi guys, Iím in the market in building a new home on the south side of town and I am looking for a reputable home builder.
    Not all home builders are perfect but there are some that are better than others. Iím thinking of building a single detached home with double car garage.

    I was interested in Pacesetterís, their show homes looked great. But when it came to asking around of others experiences, they werenít so good after all.
    At the moment I have a list of home builders that I would set aside for now and they are:
    Landmark
    Pacesetter
    Sterling
    Jayman

    What home builders would you recommend and why?

    Many thanks!

    Sterling = Pace Setter, fyi.

    My friend has a Sterling home and it's very nice. Their buying process seems reasonable and they have a nice upgrade program of you choose to flush money down the toilet and move in 4 years.

    Thanks, I remember a friend telling me that but had forgotten which two.
    Yeah they are pretty good. I guess I can't be too picky. It seems like if a good area manager is running the show. Then the outcome results will be better. Someone that cares.

    My neighbour argues that buying a spec home is the way to go. They don't rush to build those, so he feels you're less likely to have issues with shitty insulation issues or poor drywall, roofing, etc.
    My feeling is to get as much BASF spray foam as you can possibly afford and see if you can get the whole basement done from Day 1.

    I've worked for 2 of the homebuilders on your list. Also am really good friends with the sales manager at Sterling so if you have any questions pm me. I can refer you to the best qualified person to deal with in regards to answering questions etc.

    They're a small builder. I really felt that "personal touch" when dealing with them. It was really nice to be able to get everything "Rob-sized" - high counter tops, extra high ceilings and doorways, etc. We went with every upgrade they offered, pretty much. Granite, high end fixtures, cupboards, so forth. We've lived in our place nearly 5 years now and no real issues to speak of. The fireplace had a problem shortly after moving in, which they fixed. They came back after 12 months once everything "settled" and touched up a couple protruding screws and little bits of paint here and there. And they fixed the drainage in the back yard.
