The ticket is bullshit. The whole thing is bullshit.

Why the f*&k do people in this thread keep talking like the burnt out bulb is an infraction? It isn't.

    It's debatable,
    Required maintenance
    3
Any equipment or safety system installed in a vehicle by the
manufacturer of the vehicle must be maintained in good working
order and in accordance with th
    e manufacturer’s specifications.
    And further down
    (6)
Fog lamps on a motor vehicle must be used only at the same
time the low beams on the headlamps are used.
    (7)
Despite subsection (6), fog lamps may be used without
headlamps if the weather and road conditions make the use of
    headlamps disadvantageous.
The "joy" of our laws is they are open to interpretation. Do factory installed fog lights count as a "Safety system"?

Personally I would fight the fog light ticket just to see what a judge says, but I could swing it so I wouldn't loose pay to go to court. (Adjust my shift, bank some time in lieu, vacation day, etc)

Well considering Fog lights literally come as options for some cars there is nothing to debate.

It may be an option to be installed, but once installed is it a safety system? An officer could argue they are. I've had a few officers tell me if it came equipped on the car from factory it must be maintained. Example legally you only need 2 mirrors either 2 door mirrors or 1 door one rearview. But if it came with 3 and a door mirror gets knocked off you have to fix it. One could argue you're still complying witht he law, but they're that sort of catch all clause, which is why I said I personally would fight it.

If you compare the Fog lamps vs Daytime running lights sections...

    "Daytime running lamps
43 If a motor vehicle is equipped with daytime running lamps installed by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle, the daytime running lamps must be maintained in good working order and to the manufacturer’s specifications"

where the fog light section immediately before that makes no similar statement.

I don't disagree with you, but look at the section 3 I quoted above. It's not black and white like one would hope.

I've been told, by an RCMP, for example my truck came with halogens/incandescents in the quads.. if I installed the projector/led combo from a newer model, bought directly from Dodge, so an OEM part.. because my truck didn't come with it, it's technically illegal.

Then again an RCMP also told me that because my signal bulb didn't have 3157 stamped on it, even it was a GE, Sylvania, OSRAM, it was illegal because that meant it didn't meet the required SAE specs.

How much of a car enthusiast are you, really, if you don't notice and immediately repair a burned out bulb?

Not only should the ticket stand... His man card should be revoked.
