"I was stopped at a red light waiting for the green light to turn left (4 way intersection). The light turned green; I looked both ways and then slowly started to turn to the left when a stolen '88 Toyota Corolla with no lights on hit me at about a 60 degree angle. He hit me at around 90-100kph (about 55-60 mph) from what the police report says. About 5 police cruisers were following him (without any lights or sirens WTF!!!) a couple of hundred feet behind.
The initial impact was from the middle of the front driver wheel to the middle of the driver door. My car then started sliding with the other car, the rear axe was torn from the suspension, and the rear wheel broke off. My rear brake rotor was found 300 feet from the point of impact, the tire was found 350-400 feet in the other direction. Total damage was over $24,000 Canadian (I paid $25,000 for it 6 months before). The short block, the transmission, the chassis and even the radio were shot.
My girlfriend and I were not seriously hurt, just bruises and a small cut. The guys that hit me were 18 and 19 years old, and just pulled a holdup where they stole about $200 and a couple cartons of cigarettes." |
