sounds like a tricep kickback that you're doing?
but if it's straining your shoulders and back... that means one of two things. improper form or lack of development in those two areas. but kickbacks are safe to do. hard to suggest something without seeing what's going on. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://asianet.ca/images/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo--> |

Sit down, grab a weight in each hand, press them into the air, then flex at the elbow and let the weight down slowly behind your back. I think these are called Seated Tricep Extensions. For really heavy weights, do one arm at a time.
If you have access to a cable machine, tricep pressdowns with a rope and straight bar really hit the tris hard. |

If you're feeling ancillary muscle groups getting sore after any triceps extension exercises, you probably need to get back to basics. It sounds like overall strength and endurance would need to be increased to address some basic weakness, or you might not have good form/and or using too much weight causing the bad form. where do you work out?

at club fat st. albert trail? I only have like a 12 day trial membership thing....i decided to take it cuz a buddy of mine was gonna do the same thing.....
....I'll try less weight next time....i think its the weight thats causing the other muscles to work more than my tri's? ....but i thought my form was good....my buddy was watching while i was doing it....said it looked alright... |

for triceps,
i like to use cable the cable machines. either the straight bar or using the rope. i'm not too sure what the excersise is called but i like using the cable machines because it gives me the same weight/tension throughout the whole motion |

S2000R, if you don't have somebody else's 10 years experinece it might be beneficial, to try a personal trainer for a short while. Or somebody else that has had an injury free decade of weight training. Weight training is exercise anybody can do and learn, it just takes time. Have fun.

Books can be helpful. I can recommend anything by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

| if you are worried about your back and shoulders then I recommend the "skull crusher" there is less stress on your shoulders then the other exercies |
