2004 Lotus Elise

Looks like the Elise will be here in 2004!

I WANT ONE!!!! ....Im just not sure about the price tag...Ive heard $40 000 USD? Just not sure if i should sell my car for this sucker or trade it in... Maybe i'll wait and check it out in person first? Do we even HAVE a lotus dealer here in Edmonton? :dunno:

...Anyways, talk about the ultimate in sport compact cars! B)

180 hp, 135lbs.ft torque......and under 2000lbs!

DeathBy240
I always thought they were more of a "supercar" than that.... Looks nice tho.

2003specv
Maybe you were thinking of the Esprit V8.

Mmm... twin turbo V8.

DeathBy240
Yeah doesnt quite compare to the celica engine.

986guy
Nice ! hopefully can Order from Vancouver Lotus Dealer ! as a 2005 model (?)

Magnum

all show and no go? I think it'd leave the Celica GT in the dust....quite easily, in fact. :P not to mention the RSX :P

....0-60 in under 5 seconds??? Since when does the Celica GT or RSX do that? not to mention the handling that thing must have being so lightweight ....must be a fun car to drive in the twisties... :D

95Integra
1/4 mile in 12 seconds. Its just that sweet.

ya i agree that Lotus V8 is much nicer.....TTV8 baby....and its only like a 3.5l V8.....so its very small for a V8......

bashing u for no reason? Come on, i dont think you have to say, "..instead of opening my mouth?" I was merely pointing out my opinion....i wasnt bashing you i wasnt saying your car sucks, i just thought that the Lotus would more than keep up with a celica or an rsx...and i know u never said that your car would beat it but u DID say a celica and the elise would be about the same....and in my opinion, your incorrect.

u just showed me the specs.... 0-60 in under 5 sec. for a car with 180hp and 135lbs.ft torque? ...and tahts a car u call all show and no go?

....and i dont nkow...but i dont think i'd wanna mod up too much if i had that car....

man, when are people gonna stop looking at the torque and horsepower as everything? Such a stupid mentality that the bigger number's always better...

it's a little thing called power/weight ratio.....oh and ever heard of gearing? It's pretty important too...

that thing is kick-ass

Shouldn't you have the power to weight ratio of your car in your signature then? :P

That's funny. Should keep up with something more like a Viper, you mean. If i had the money to be able to maintain one of these properly, make the payments on it, and afford to run it at a track every month or so, i'd trade the R in on one in a heartbeat. For about the same price as a Boxster you will get THE best handling car in the world that will outrun all but the fastest cars out there. Lotus also did some work to the Toyota engine, making the low and midrange power much better, while still adding 10 peak hp to it, so it's actually 190hp. That also helped the power curve so much that they didn't have to fix the crappy gearing Toyota decided to use in the tranny. Magnum, i doubt that you would be able to take the extra $15k US or so in price difference between the Elise and RSX-S and be able to make the RSX faster. The only thing you might be able to beat it in is the 1/4 mile, if you put all the money into the engine and tranny, and who cares about the 1/4 mile if you own an Elise? You'd be practically untouchable on a road track.

986guy
For the 190 HP european ELise model, only take 4.3 second from 0-60 mph, and it can take ( or beat ) any Ferrari 360 or Porsche 911 Turbo ..

PLEASE >> Don't compare a " LOTUS " to a japanese car !!
Lotus is a Lotus ! a well known brand for super sports car !
I don't mean offence .. japanese is nice, and can be fast too, but .. come one .. they are not the same class ! :(
You can buy a ROLEX or a Casio watch, they both nice, and both "run" .. but .. can't compare ! or even an "Armani suit" compare to La Chateau cloth?

If compare ? compare it to a Boxster S , 911 .. even a Ferrari .. or at elast a Z4 .. M roadster .... SLK32 ..

Celica ? Rsx ?
how about an Echo ?????
How about compare a RSX to my shoes ??
Again, it is a LOTUS . (even with toyota engine)

SplineZ
Isnt lotus partially owned by GM? If they are im suprised they used a toyota engine..

and if they are still independant, thats amazing in itself. How'd such a lil company keep afloat, and not be swepted up by some other bigfish?

Myself.. I'd trade my soul for one of these.. or a vauxhall vx220 turbo (opel speedster turbo).... 1700lbs net weight and 200hp is intoxicating...

James Z

REFLUX
lol someone's getting :owned:

I really dont understand how an Elise can be compared to any Japanese sports economy car....status wise especially

0-100km/h in 5 seconds....DAMN! How can ANYONE argue that???? It's been frigging tested & recorded.

No, they were partially owned by a company named Proton, who now completely owns them. One thing i must say though, is, i wish they had convinced Honda somehow to put the K20 from the RSX-S in that car instead of the Celica engine. There would be so much available to get more power out of the Honda engine, imagine that car with even better gearing, and say a Jackson Racing Supercharger setup, NOTHING short of a supercar would be able to run with it, especially on a track. There was a company in Europe, Sun, who put the B18C5 from the ITR into the Elise, and man was it fast, 1/4 mile time was in the low 11's. Sport Compact Car did a car to car comparison with a Mustang Cobra R ( price was about the same between them was their reasonoing for the test) and it destroyed it in every test they came up with. The car was lighter than the US spec one (around 1800 pounds), but imagine the US spec car with way more tourque and horsepower.

s2oooR
scooby, CanadianR, and 986guy....thats what ive been trying to tell Magnum all along......wasnt trying to bash him at all....

There will be an Elise in the city next fall. A friend has put his deposit down with the Vancouver dealer who will be distributing them. They say delivery of OCt-NOV 2004 for Canadian cars. Should be interesting. He is an auto X-er and hopes to mop up with this little gem.

MR99siR
they've been in north american for a bit. i read in car and driver that the elise couldn't pass emissions a couple yrs ago. when the lotus imported them here they had to replace the power plant to get the insured in the states. oddly enough the same specs posted here closely resembles the b18c5=P

same engine they had to put in to the elise when they had it imported a couple yrs ago as well. looks like it

Lotus doesn't have the same cachet as Ferrari. A Lotus is really just one step above a Toyota MR2 and about 5 steps below a Lamborghini.

Who cares? Do you buy a car to impress your friends at the country club or what? The European-spec Elise was voted by many as the third best handling production car, behind only the 360 Modena and i can't remember the other car. Lotus has improved upon this for the US-spec car and figures it will surpass both to become the best handling car in the world. It'll also keep up with all but the supercars, but at a price of about $53 000 Canadian or so. Who needs cachet when you can have what is being called by many as the purest sports car on the planet?

the only reason that that is true is because toyota started selling Jbodys in Japan.. I have lost all respect for them.. I have been driving a 4d cavi for the last week because my civic is in the body shop.. HURTING RIDE!!! it does not even have a tape deck.. its brutal.. I had a 4dr civic rental a year ago.. it was a million times better.

SplineZ
depending on which shop you go to you get different cars.. My moms van was in the shop for a week and they gave her a f@cking 89 nissan sentra xe. It had NOTHING. well wait.. it had blower vents and windows that go down!

When my truck was in the shop, my replacement vehicle was a 2002 Dodge Dokota SLT 4x4 ext.

Base models of ANY car/truck is pretty baron. what can you expect for the lowest ammount of $$ posible?

James Z

986guy
:( The New Lotus Elise is $ 59,000 Can MSRP, plus options, Freight, and PDI, it is a bit more then I expected, but what can I do ? still .. a nice car for under $70,000, and it will be quicker then an Porsche 911 Cab, but half the price still ! :D

However.. I am the 18th on the list .. Weissach pre-sold over 20 of them already, and should start arriving next Sept/Oct, 2004.. but I have to wait till early 2005 ...

What about the warranty then - is it still valid?

Or is there even a warranty on them (Since they have Honda drivetrain)?

986guy
:D ha ha, buying a Brand new car from US ? no way .... $40,000 US , still work out at $53,000 can ... only $ 7,000 diff ! and I don't know if we can even do that, such as insurance, plate ..etc ... ;)

Used cars should be ok .. but NEW car .. don't think it works.

what do u mean, "ONLY $7000?" You dont think you'd like to have saved $7000? Im sure u can think of a bunch of things to get with $7000 :P

....anyways, im not worried....i think the price will drop by alot as our dollar goes up! I think its a pretty safe bet that our dollar will continue to rise

I just dont see a $40 000 USD car selling for $60 000 CAD when the canadian dollar is at $0.80 or more

I just checked, the dollar is trading at $0.767291 USD ...which would make the car $52 133 (using $40 000 and not the MSRP of $38-39 000 USD)
