 or  or :gay: ??

2.8L V6 with a 6 speed manual tranny sounds nice. What are your thoughts when it comes to looks, reliability, power, etc.

Here are a couple pix:

What it could look like!! :

MMmmmmmmmm... Rieger kit!!!!!!

I  RPI's Jetta stuff. Did you see their new one? Sweet!

Same with the old Bora one that Andrew had.....

MrHeavyFoot
 but then I'm kinda biased. I don't think the 6 speed was available until 2002/2003 or so. The older 12V VR6 only put out about 174HP whereas the newer 24V is 201HP. Not sure what the torque numbers are, but its a VW, so there's lots of torque.

Reliability wise, the engines are solid. VW has had a few problems with coil packs. Not sure if the VR6s were affected by that, I know the 1.8T was though. Also, window regulators have had a habit of breaking and MAF/O2 sensors go from time to time.

Honestly Sunil, with the problems that we've had with our Bug...I don't think I myself would ever go with a VW. It's a 2002 Special edition Snap Orange 1.8T, the tranny went at 22,000km, little bits in the interior are regularly falling off/malfunctioning, the hood and trunk releases don't work, the gauge cluster has gone 3 times(they most recently replaced it with white when it was supposed to be blue), and just this past week the engine went at 31,000km. Sure we may have gotten a lemon(and what a lemon at that), but from what I've heard talking to other VW owners, most of this is very common.

On the good side, I know that the VR6 is a much more proven engine. The Jetta and Golf don't get as many complaints as Bugs, and in the end it's all up to you.

Good Luck!

very nice cars :)

VR6 > 1.8T :D

superpirate25
I would rather have it in GTI form. Jetta is kinda :gay: IMO.

vw makes very safe cars... i can personaly attest for the safty of the mrk4 golf's

Nimbusgti
I work at a independent vw shop and i would say that the Vw engines are very reliable with the exception of a few common problems. The problems that ChromeDragon encountered are not common on the Golf and jettas. For some reason the new beetles don't have the same quality as other vw's.

Can't go wrong with the 1.8T in my opinion its a much easier motor to mod and takes to boost like flys to SH*t!! :D
