I hate the cops in this city! - Click HERE for Original Thread

dharmaboy
so here i am driving my beat up '83 prelude because i have no money. driving to work at the university of alberta. i come down from groat road down to 76 Ave and turn left on to 109 street heading North. i pull into the bus lane so i can park at 80th ave and take the bus from Whyte Ave, as parking is too expensive for me. so the stupid cop pulls me over saying i was driving in the bus lane. I tell the cop that i park here on the one way 80th ave street so i can catch my bus. I continue to tell him i had my signal on the whole time as i decided not to turn at 79Ave but instead turn at 80th AVe. he just says to me "You didnt have your signal on, you only turned it on after i pointed to you!", I was like what?!!!!

i knew they were pulling over guys as i saw his other cop car at 78th ave parked on the side. so i knew this. and so i left my signal on to run onto 80th ave.

now i got dinged for $172 , money that i obviously have , as I drive a world class GT, turbo charged V4 100 hp, rusty peice of a Prelude ;)

i hate the cops in this city, sorry but some are good officers. but this is the second crappy ticket I have got. and I am the one that drives carefully.

after he gave me his ticket i parked car 2 cars away from where he pulled me over, and walked toward whyte ave. along 109 street. like was planning the whole time. I just looked at the cop and shook my head at him, while he saw me walk towards my bus stop.

facking sick i tell you, just sick.

redbaron303
There are ppl in every profession that show no compassion at all, and especially no mercy because they're out w/ vengence to f@ck us over.... I suggest going and talking to the prosecutor and at least getting the ticket reduced if not thrown out.

ALIAS81
agreed with redbaron...thats just fukked up. I suggest you fight it. tell them your story eaxctly as you put it. and get that shit throw out... no respect at all... sorry to hear bro...

turbomike
well at least you didn't get a 3 point red light ticket on a bicycle like me...
guess who did it.....

big old bastard who drives the ghost car on white....
hutch huchenson................
what a dink'''''

dharmaboy
i will fight this ticket or try to get it reduced. what i hate is that i drove this car to keep it warm cuz i cant drive it that great in slippery conditions as my ball joints are messed hence alignment is shot. so i thought i drive it once a week to keep the fluids good. what a jip.

in trying to save $8 i got a $172 ticket.

NWA was right F*Ck the Po-po

useless, just useless

the funny thing is , if i went to court, they will dismiss the crack dealer selling drugs to Junior high kids but they will make my ticket still stick!!

welcome to anarchy!

littledan
that's total bullshit!!! i would have been close to losing it. i would fight that ticket all the way! just the the cp that you got into that lane when it was safe to do so and turned as soon as you could... and f@ck the popo!

Copper
agreed, sounds like it's somthing you can fight, if not at least to have it reduced.

1mns13
Fight it and remeber that cop. everybody gets what they deserve.

sideways slut
sorry to here, but i must say, i just went to see the prosecutor about reducing my $172 expired insurance paper ticket and he told me that the actual ticket is $300 so the cop already gave me a break. this guy is a PRICK. and when you try to explain your story to him he'll say "can we agree that i didnt give you this ticket?, can we agree that i wasnt there?" and youll say "um, ya", and he'll say "well, what would you like me to do?" and if your like me youll say, "um, how about just rip up the ticket", and then he'll give you this roud look and tell you that hes not goin to do anything, but if you want, you can see a judge (which will eat up even more off your time and youll still have to deal with some prick who"ll just shoo you out of the room). id say give it a try, but if your young, dont expect much. oh and make sure you get there early while hes still in a decent mood, then again, he might hate mornings so youd be screwed there too.

you can get a dimerit ticket on a bicycle?! holy f@ck thats gay.. did anybody get that bicycles license plate number?! :gay:

The CP was really nice to me.. he lowered a ticket that they didnt even process yet for me :)

Go see the CP, dress in business casual, look professional... He'll be more likely to lower/dismiss it if you present yourself respectable :)

Well,

I am going to court in December to fight this. I don't know what I could have done to avoid this.

should I have got back into the the traffic lane on my left and waited for an opening (potentially causing any buses to get held up) and then waited till i got to within 100 meters of my turn and then turn back into the bus lane and then make my final right turn to 80th Ave?

that makes no sense to do that for a block that is 300 meters long.

if you think about it, it's so dumb.

;)

SplineZ
dont wait until the court date.. go to the CP a week or 2 after you got the ticket.. by that time its been processed and they'll have it.. You should be able to get off

You were in the bus lane, and got a ticket. The cop was just doing his job.

You admit yourself that you stayed in it for awhile because you didn't want to make a turn earlier.

I'm glad you got ticketed. Every day that I drive down 97th street I see people cruise through the bus lanes. Every day. I hate them, I try to obey the law by staying out, but they get rewarded with at least 5 minutes less on their drive.

Your only option is to fight it (Remember, it does carry demerits) if you want to get off. Good luck with that - since you're a student I guess you don't have to worry about missing a day of work to fight it...

You're Prelude is a V4? :o

dharmaboy
I know,

but its kinda annoying that i want to go just one stinking block to make my turn. its not like i was going down the lane the whole time!

thats a fricken stupid comment for you to make when i clearly explained what i did. you can see that i didnt go down the lane the whole time. The thing is i knew they were there too because I saw one cop car 2 blocks before my turn off. Thats why i had my signal on the whole time. I'm the one using the bus after that, and I know how annoying it is when people are in the bus lane.

all i wish is a little leniancy, or atleast listen to the offender. We dont need no corrupt (and we know they are) usless cops , who have f@cking big egos and think they are hot shit, but only put their tails between their legs when the RCMP swing by.

I like how when I needed a cop to shut up disturbances outside my place at 3 am so i can get some sleep in the summer they dont f@cking even show up after my call, but ...oh the ding dong eating fuckers are their quick when they need money.

screw that shit.

Kato
I've received one of these tickets as well. The clock just turned 7 AM and I'm late picking up a buddy who had broken his ankle. I pulled out from behind a pick up truck and bam, copper points at me to pull over. If I had known about how to fight a ticket than, I would have. But awell, life goes on.

Keith303
that sucks, I feel bad for you, some officers take there job to serious when it comes to small traffic infractions, when there are other times when it is so obvious that a ticket will be handed out, and in the end, you end up joking around with the officer and no ticket at all, which recently hapend to me and some freinds.
Police are just like the lottery, its all bout luck of the draw.

One question - were you in the bus lane when legally you shouldn't have been?

Answer: Yes.

Therefore you deserve the ticket. And if you knew they were there, you're a dumbass for playing Russian Roulette with a cop handing out tickets.

When you get the cops on a "crackdown" - such as when they are doing Laser or Bus Lane infractions (Where they sit there for 1/2 a day) there isn't time for leniancy. If they have to listen to you, they'll miss pulling over 3-5 cars that are violating the law, like you were. Sure you _MIGHT_ have special circumstances, but they don't have 15 minutes to argue with you because legally, you were in the wrong.

There are flaws in the system - I'll admit it. Cops aren't always responsive to complaints made by people. I'll give you that. But that's not the issue here. The issue is, you drove in the bus lane and got a ticket.

If you feel so wronged, then fight it. Remember, the ticket also carries demerits (Failure to Obey a traffic device I assume), 3 I believe. So it may be in your best interests to fight it.

You can't blame the officer on this one. Chances are, he's just a young constable who HAS to follow the law to the letter, or else he'll get bitched at by his supervisor.

Remember, when they have a massive enforcement of something (Laser, bus lane infractions, etc...) one constable can't start letting people off with warnings, etc... because his supervisor/partner onsite will notice this. It creates a double standard.

It's different when they pull you over, because there are no other drivers in the same predicament as you (So they can get away with giving you a warning). But when they are handing out massive amounts of tickets, they can't start letting one/two people go. Because if the other people who got tickets found out, they can challenge based on that.

SlowAzzPorsche911T
do you mean you hate all cops.. or just the ones that give you tickets?

It does suck that you got the ticket but you're only allowed to travel one block in the bus lane so you did break the law why should they give you a break and not someone else?

that's exactly what I did, I was only in the bus lane for 1 block!!! the cop even said 100 meters, i asked him, do you mean like a block and the cop said YES> I was going to turn into 79th AVe but then changed my mind because 80th Ave is closer to Whyte where i catch my bus!!!! so i did travel one block W/MY SIGNAL ON!!. he said I didn't and only did after he said that he pointed to me. which is a lie as i was waiting for the Toyota Truck he pulled over to hurry up.

grrrr......

yes I still hate the cops in this city.

look i don't about fighting the ticket and creatinga lotof havoc...but i d know you can ask for time to pay with no interest charges which over a period of 6 months can seem less nerve wrecking $30 a month just go in witha pay stub saying you don't make enough to pay for this at once ...it might not be what you are looking for but if can get 6 months at no interest take it won't seem taht bad..looka t that option before you fight cause once he pissed off..you got nothing...and remember he gots nothing to lose and you do so pick your battle wisely

The ticket will still carry 3 demerits, which is what I assume he is really worried about.

No offence to anyone out there, but i think anyone who breaks the law should get a ticket (no matter if its a bus-lane infraction), even me. Im a student as well thats why i have to drive even more careful. Thats the last thing i need is a ticket, Insurance is high enough!!!!!! But hey, if your not satisfied always try to fight it you never know what will happen!! :fingersx:

dOOd if you are a student I hope that you don't drive what your name says cause if you can afford that then you have nothing to complain about.......

Given you were in the lane longer than you should have been, for whatever reason. Its still against the law.

Its like doing 10 clicks over the speed limit, sometimes a cop will pull you over. And ultimetely, you were going over the limit, so your in the wrong. Even though it doesnt seem fair....Best way to avoid these sorts of tickets is not to take any chances, and just play it as safe as possible, go exactly the speed limit, get out of the bus lane for 1 block and then go back in, whatever it takes. If you chose not to, thats fine, just dont complain about it when you get a ticket for it, even if its "barely" breaking the law.

None of us were there, so we dont really know exactly what happened, only what you tell us.

I also drive 97th St every day, and its a piss off when I try to get into the right (bus) lane, to turn, and its already full of cars that shouldnt be in there in the first place!

And everyweek I see cops pulling people over driving in the bus lane, but its not as if anyone learns, theres so many that drive in it the whole way, everyday.

Im assuming this was the first ticket you have gotten that had demmerits attached to it or came at a really inconvenient time. And as everybody does when they get their first ticket we all bitch and complain... cops are assholes, they have nothing better to do it was the only time i ever did that and so on. Face it you did something wrong and you will think twice before ever doing that again and that is the whole reason that we have penalties for people who break the law. I felt the same ways when i got my first ticket a STUNTING TICKET, that served as a wake up call and i dont do stupid shit with my car anymore.
