FWD Automatic Transmissions - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm researching modifications for my Z/34 over the winter here, and I thought the Hydra-Matic 4T60-E transmission could stand an upgrade (ie Shift kit).
I'm reasonably familiar with RWD Auto transmission construction/operation, but I don't know how a transverse-mounted FWD engine's auto trans works

Anyone that could explain how, I'd greatly appreciate it!

It's pretty much the same way man, input and output shaft with all sorts of fun planetaries and valving in the middle.

I totally recomend a shift kit.. it really firms up the shifts.. I had one in my old S15, and if i was on the gas it'd chirp the tires into second... and it was a real kick in the pants too :) Makes it interesting for winter tho, sometimes your tires break loose, but it shouldnt happen if you are not on the trottle.

the 4T65E-HD would probly be a good bet, its MUCH stronger, and i think its the same tranny they use on the new G6's with tapshift :) make a manual outta your 4spd auto

Wow, great stuff, but crazy complicated  Thanks for the info James!

Ah, the 4T65E-HD. If only I had lots of money for a component swap,...THEN things would be a whole lot more interesting! I think I'll hold off until my finances improve, though :fingersx:

Make sure to get a real shift kit and not that B&M garbage.

As well, look into installing a tranny cooler.

Ah, I got that one for free. Previous owner had the foresight to install one! B)

You should really talk to Kevwood on the board here, he has done many transmission upgrades and is VERY knowlogable with them. Especially that specific tranny.

VerbotenZ34
I would, but he seems to be MIA. Maybe its really busy at AutoToys,...?
