| I just use water and soap in the shower and I never have any problems with my skin. People say I'm lucky like that (although I am on the pill and doctors say that helps;)) |

Remixed? You actually use soap? Yea, depending on which pill you are on, it helps the skin a lot!
You are lucky! I'm jealous!!! :P |

This was taken from a person's website. Apparently you aren't supposed to use soap at all.....
CLEANSERS
How often do you wash your face? Once a day? Once a week? What do you use to wash with, a washcloth, sponge etc? Sometimes the very reason people come to me at the cosmetics counter at work with questions about their red, irritated, dry, flaky, zitted skin is because of the very products they are using. Do you suffer from pimples? Red, irritated flaky skin? Often the cause of these are the first steps of your skin care program, your cleanser!
First off, if you are using bar soap on your face, bar soap of any kind, STOP, there is your first mistake, it could be Dove, Ivory, Imperial, Cetaphil, something reccomended by your doctor, or any kind of bar soap, stop for the love of god, or please just stop for your own skins sake. Use of bar soap on the body is no problem but when it comes to your face that is a definite NO NO. Soap is naturally pretty liquidy but because of convinenience sake, soap companies add oils to it to make it harden, when washing your skin, your pores open up and allow any substance to be absorbed quickly, these oils from the bar will stick to your face and make a film on your skin, this film will migrate themselves into your pores and make a nice little nest, soon causing an eruption of lovely pimples and blackheads.
This is why liquid soap is good, liquid soap doesn't contain a vast amount of oils and is doesn't leave a film.... But what about cream cleansers, you ask? If you are using a cold cream, stop, it pretty much contains the same stuff as bar soap to keep it a bit stiffer and, yes, it also leaves a nice pretty film. If you find that using bar soap doesn't cause you to erupt into a vast ball of pimples, zits and blackheads, it still isn't good for your skin, so stop anyways. Stop using any kind of cleanser that requires no water but only the use of a dry towel/cotton to rub it off, this dry rubbing process is irritating and only further pushes the greasy cleanser into your pores.
Ok, so i made liquid cleansers sound like a god send eh? WAIT, don't go out and buy any liquid cleanser you see, things like Fa and Softsoap are for your hands only! Pamolive and such are for dishes only! Many skin care companies though put too much harsh cleansing agent into facial cleansers and this can dry and irritate the skin, liquid cleansers can also contain alcohol.....a very bad skin irritant. Ever get that burning, tingling sensationg after using an OXY pad, that is the lovely sensation of alcohol, please stop using it!
Anything that makes your face feel tingly probably contains alcohol, stop using it. Anything that makes your face feel cool and tingly probably contains methanol, stop using it. So, now that i got you all confused, let me explain what you skin needs. A dry skin would need a creamier liquid cleanser such as Neutrogena Gentle Skin Cleanser, which is a thick and creamy soap that doesn't dry skin out, this can leave a film (which is ok for dry skin as this film can create a moisturizing barrier against the elements) and it doesn't remove makeup well either. Someone with oilier skin can benefit from the use of Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser which contains a stonger cleansing agent but still is gentle and doesn't dry the skin out, because of the stronger cleaning agent it can remove makeup effectively with the use of a washcloth. Someone with normal skin can go for the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, which is a gentle lighter version of the Neutrogena one and doesn't clog pores but doesn't take makeup off well. The products used to wash your face with can also be very irritating, I buy baby face cloths and use new fresh ones daily to wash my face as using old ones can contain bacteria and spread it over your face. A sponge isn't very sanitary because it can contain a lot of bacteria as bacteria like to thrive in moist climates.
EXFOLIATION
This is a stressed and highly used word in the cosmetics and skin care industry. Though many are aware of the products used to undergo exfoliation, first one should understand why it is useful and beneficial to the skin. First off, no, it isn't for women over 30, it isn't an anti-ager, and with proper knowledge and use every one can use it. Lets go in steps to make this as easiest to understand as possible, alright?
Lets start.
1) Skin sheds dead cells, which is about a 28 day process, by walking, touching your skin, moving, dancing or doing anything your dead skin is literally shedding.
2)The skin will try to shed all the dead cells but often dead cells will build up on ceratain areas of the skin where the skin finds trouble shedding, such as areas where skin is oilier the dead cells remain attached to the skin.
3)This buildup of cells will imbed themselves into your pores and cause pimples, zits, blackheads, milia, whiteheads, and can also cause wrinkles to look deeper. A buildup of cells will make the skin look dull as the fresh skin is lying beneath trapped, and more and more layers will build up causing a dull and lack luster appearance. This can happen to people with all types of skin from super oilier to super dry, though oilier skin types suffer more from pimples and blackheads where people with dry skin can see more milia (under eye area white dots) and possibly whiteheads and blackheads, pimples though are not as evident.
4)When someone exfoliates their skin they help to manually remove more dead cells, by simply using a washcloth for the low maintinence person to using a beta hydroxy or alpha hydroxy for the high maintinence person, there are many options. 5) Now, lets go through the different types of exfoliants ---->WASHCLOTHS--->for the rough guys who could care less about the state of their skin, use water and a washcloth to [as gently as possible] rub your face morning and night. ----->BAKING SODA PASTE---->Take one teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with your current skin cleanser to form a slightly loose paste.....not too lose and not too stiff!!!!...........Practice makes perfect.
Anyways after the paste is made make sure you apply it to clean skin with no makeup on it, and do not use it around eyes. Spread the paste over the skin in light circular motions gently, and gently circulate over your skin for about 30-60 seconds. This can be done only depending on your skin type and condition, if you have extreamly sensitive skin or skin that is prone to broken surface capillaries or have 7+ pimples (light to severe acne) this method isn't for you.----->ALPHA HYDROXY ACID----->Alpha hydroxy acids break down the bonds in your epidermis that hold the dead skin to the surface, home alpha hydroxy acids are a gentle and safe way to effectively remove dead cells. (NEUTROGENA MULTIVITAMIN TREATMENT) is a good one to consider. AHA's slowly break down these bonds and allow dead skin to be rinsed away with the product when you wash your face. An AHA can be used nightly. Because newer skin is revealed with alpha hydroxy acids, skin is more prone to sun damage as dead skin helped to shield UVA rays, once using an AHA be sure to consider sunscreen (read SUN PROTECTION below). AHA's come in different concentrations from 4-10 percent for the face, always be sure to start with a gentle AHA in case of a sensitivity or allergic reaction, not all skin responds well to AHA's, and irritation such as dryness, redness and peeling can occur. If any of these symptoms are ever present discontinue use of the product. There should be no pain involved. though slight stinging is normal with first time users but should subside shortly, continued stinging isn't normal. The Neutrogena one i reccomended is a 4 percent concentration and is a good starter one and can be used year long, No need to upgrade to higher concentrations unless you are suffering from serious dry and peeling skin! ------->BETA HYDROXY ACIDS-----> Beta hydroxy is a deritive of willow bark, once enzymes help to break down willow bark it produces salicylic acid which is used in skin care products. Both alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids perfom similarly by breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin to the skin's surface and both need a PH of around 3-4.5 to be effective but beta hydroxy is often reccomended more to people with oilier skins because it helps to go into the pores (due to its oil soluibility) and help to loosen dirt and dead skin inside the pore rather that just on the outside like AHA's. Since pimples are a common characterstic of oily skin, a beta hydroxy acid will help to clean what your cleanser isn't. Using an AHA for dry skin is like using a beta hydroxy for oily skin and if you are lucky you can find products that have an AHA and beta hydroxy acid combination. Use a beta hydroxy nightly for skin that is oily or if you have larger pores, combination skin can also benefit from beta hydroxy acid use.
NOTE: Sunscreen and any alpha or beta hydroxy acid product can never be used in conjunction, AHA's and beta hydroxy acids require low pH's to be effective and sunscreens require high pH's, that also goes for products claiming to contain both, it just won't work out. There are also other forms of exfoliation type products out there such as renova, retin-A and retionol, but only my close clients can contact me for that information sorry for you the rest of you. hehe..suckers
SUN PROTECTION
Contrary to popular belief having tanned skin doesn't mean you are healthier. Back in tha day people used to see tanned people as people who were healthy and thus you hear things such as a "healthy tan." Face it, whether you know this or not tanning isn't healthy in any amount. When you are out in the sun for extended periods of time you skin responds by increasing the melanin production making your skin look darker. Tanned skin or red skin are the first signs of sun damage after you have been in contact with too many ultra violet rays for extended periods. One should wear a sunscreen daily (spf 15 minimum), 365 days a year to combact the effects of the suns harmful rays. What effects will you get if you decide not to apply sunscreen...well, first you will prematurely age and may notice small wrinkes on your face by the time you reach your late twenties or possibly earlier which is really dependant on the time you have spent outside without protection, other side effects are skin cancer, leathery skin, hyperpigmentation (liver spots), freckles and more wrinkles. Now, one should apply sunscreen a minimum of 30 minutes before sun exposure and apply regularly depending on the amount of time spent in the sun. If it is especially hot apply every 2-4 hrs, if you use a higher spf 30 etc, then you can reapply less frequently and also reapply after swimming and heavy perspiration. So, how do you know if you are getting the proper sun protection, lets just step up on some of the common active skin care ingredients to prevent you from getting those nasty thingies in relation to ultraviolet rays. There are three ingredients that one must check for a sunscreen to be effective, your sunscreen only has to contain one of these three ingredients to be effective against UVA (UVB will be gone through afterwards) Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Avobenzone (also known as butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, and Parasol 1789). Now, Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are non-chemical forms and creates less irritation but it can clog pores so for those with oily skin or who are pimple/acne prone do not use titanium dioxide or zinc oxide and rather find one contaning avobenzone. Avobenzone does contain a more chemical base but it has a much less chance of clogging pores. To protect agaisnt UVB rays one has to have one type of cinnimate in their sunscreen it is usually an ingredient with some letters before it like _ _ _ _ _cinnimate. There are many types of cinnimates out there. If your sunscreen doesn't contain one of three ingredients to prevent UVA damage then there is a huge possiblity you aren't getting full sun protection. When applying sunscreen make sure not to forget the ears, lips (buy a chapstick containing a spf), hands, top of feet and behind the neck. Those are common places skin cancer starts as many people don't apply sunscreen to their full body. So ladies and gents, if you want to tan the healthy way, use a self tanner in a bottle.

Usually I start out with a nice mild facial soap mixed with tea-tree oil for that fresh feeling. Then I move into a medium exfoliating scrub, finishing off with a mask for about 2 hours before bed.
LMAO
Actually, usually it's just whatever soap is in the shower, if the face is dirty from working on the car or something, Fast Orange with the grit in it!
