well folks, got two tickets on the way home...
id gone to AMA this morning and my visa didnt go through, so i couldnt get my registration changed over to the truck.
of course, today is the day i get pulled over... two young cops, full of gung ho and rah rah for the force...
unauthorized plate and unregistered motor vehicle.
$230 a pop...
$460 bucks, due dec.16th... merry f**king christmas
does anyone know how i would go about getting them reduced?
i think i have to speak to a justice of the peace to get them extended, but someone told me sometimes they reduce them as well.
also, are these demerit tickets, or just money makers for the police? |

Those would be just fines. And you need to speak to the crown prosecutor not the justice of the peace.
Give him/her a call and see what they can do....if anything they can get you an extension to pay. Thats easy to get. |

| Been there done that, you will most likely be able to get one of the ticket thrown out because its basically two tickets that mean the same thing. |

thanks guys, i do really hope they arent demerit tickets like you said flex...
money i can deal with, my driving record being mutilated... that kinda hurts more.
i guess ill see what i can do, gonna talk to points or ticketts or one of those places to see if its worth while doing that.
probably ask for an extension anyways, who has a spare 500 bucks around christmas. |

You have 14 days from the date the vehicle was purchased (not put into service) to switch the plates over from a vehicle that you no longer own. This means if you still own the vehicle but it's parked out in the back 40 somewhere you still have to get new plates for the new vehicle as soon as you start driving it.
As far as the 2 tickets ... the charges are different as you can be in violation of either or both at the same time. The good news though is that neither carry demerit points. Demerit points are associated to "Moving Offences" (bad driving habits) but not to "Non-Moving Offences (insurance / registration / equipment etc) Keep in mind though that some of the new Graduated License tickets fall within this category but do carry demerit points.

i remember what ya said carrington, lol
im just trying to figure out my options and where i stand right now.
and thanks jimbo, much appreciate the response.
im glad they arent moving violations, that definitely helps put my mind a lil more at ease.
sucks about the money, but ill see what i can do about that i guess.
i didnt know you cant use the same plate for both vehicles and get it transferred over in the registry office.
it would have been nice if someone had told me that you require one plate for each vehicle... especially my insurance agent, whom i asked about that when i got my insurance switched over.
im guessing i cant register my truck until i get these tickets taken care of either...
aint that a nice kick in the ass, but oh well, my own fault for the most part, just sucks the officers decided to be so strict. |
