I have a question for everyone (but mostly for Jim),
I recently got a speeding ticket from a radar device. The ticket is 81 in a 60 Km/h zone. Now the problem is there was a car directly beside me who was travelling at a faster speed then me along the road. (I remember this because I know this road usually has photo radar.) I also clearly remember that the flash went of close to 6 seconds after I went by the radar car.
Is it possible that the other car triggered the radar and my car was in the way???
I also am very confident that I was not going 81 km/h. What can I do???
Thanks in advance for all help and suggestions. |

| I know if you get a ticket and there is another vehicle in the picture they will throw it out. They cannot prove which vehicle set off the photoradar. So fight it and you will win. |

photoradar will go off a hell of a lot faster that 6 seconds after you go by it......try like 1-2 sec maybe......

| that's a good question, I thin I was in the same predicament maybe 2-3 weeks ago and this truck on 109th going north just by St.Joseph high school and truck just flies by me and the speed limit is 50 and I was going about 60..truck must have been 70-75?...I was on the right lane and he was in the left...now I don't know if HE got tagged or me...but I haven't gotten anything from the mail :fingersx: ..so..how does this system work..will they throw out the ticket or fight it and hopefully have the ticket thrown out?.. |

it seems so.....you are allowed to look at the original picture but remember that the photo radar operators are in the van to mark down which lane the violater was in.....so it probably was you that got the ticket....never hurts to try though.

| Ok, assuming I got the ticket... I remember the exact time and i saw the photo radar car, i truly was not going 81. Is it possible that my speedometer is out of whack? If that is the case, can i use this fact... thanks anyways |

ok.....so did you actually receive the ticket in the mail???
IF not.....6-7 sec you would have travelled much to far for that to be you who got the ticket........
fyi- if your speedo is out of wack it is NOT a defense.

| GO fight it anyhow... what's the worst that can happe, You're forced to pay the same fine anyhow???? Either way, you pay the fine but possibly if you go ask about it could have it reduced or thrown out?! If you're making lots of money and could loose more by going to the courts, just pay it.... if you're a poor student like me go fight it that's what $90ish??? |
|
|
| bomberman |
| It is $130!!! and I am a student who would rather spend my money elsewhere. I am going to fight it just wanted to know if there was something I shoud say when I am there. Thanks all |

Ive driven by photo vans that look like the operators were dead.. ones that have a news paper in their face.. one that was walking out of a store! one that was laying down in the back of the van with the rear open! and one ass with this hazard lights on (isnt that one illegal?)
I dont buy it when everybody says they pay attention :)

I'm not sure about a "Transport ..." but I know "Loveseth Automotive" does speedometer certification. Maybe try giving them a call. What you have to remember though is that you may end up paying for the certification only to find that your speedometer is accurate or close to it.
As far as the photo radar ticket - sorry but it's not my specialty. "schlong69" is definitely the resident expert on this subject; however, I think the 6-7 seconds prior to the photo being taken is kind of weird??

| Thanks anyways for your help Jim, it was wierd because i clearly remember the exact scenario of the ticket and i really do not believe i was going 81.. Regardless, I am going to talk to the JP and plead my case and give the wierd story. |

| i got a photo radar ticket in march for going 65 in a 50 zone (thought the limit was 60,but apparently not). anyways, there were 4 other cars in the picture. took it to court and i was told that i would still have to pay it. i asked why and they showed me that the other 4 cars also got tickets, and they were higher (but u can clearly see 4 other cars in my picture). anyways, photo radar is legal as long as someone is in the vehicle that is doing the photo radar. i think someone should jack up the photo radar vehicle and take all the tires off of it while the operator is snoozing in the back seat. that would be a good laugh, and put some cardboard in front of the camera as well. OH, one other thing. kids have been taken to court because they were holding up big signs saying photo radar ahead. i dont see what the big deal is, because the cops say that the photo radar vehicles have to be visible to the traffic that they are snapping pics at. f@cking PHOTO RADAR!!!!!!!!!!!! :finger: |
