Digi cams! What's hot what's not - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
what are some of your experiences?

I currently have a Nikon2500 and it is the most basic camera!
Difficult criteria to fulfill but I'm looking for a cam with/that has the ability:

-fast shutter speed that can be user controlled/changed to get "candid" shots
-user set prolonged exposure for those night scenes (light streak effect)
-good night settings, ones that are able to capture as much light, detail and with as little distortion from the real thing (no extra redness)
-good night settings that don't take forever to take the picture (night = less light = more time to capture light = shake is HORRIBLE)

Or just post up your experiences of why you like the camera you have used :)

Kato
I've used this one. It's a Canon Powershot S400. I used this one to film my in-car races at the auto-x's and to take stills as well. Lot's of features that I use.

I've also used this one. Basically the same thing as the one above but with a lower pixel resolution.

Well Terry to get the specs that you want it's not likely to happen with a digital camera. By raising the ISO(equivalent to film speed) level you can take shorter shots with less light, but the noise that you pick up is just too much. The best thing I can recommend is a tripod.

As for cameras, DP Review is a pretty good site for comparing and finding out details about digital cameras.

I kinda wish I was in the market for a camera now, prices are coming down on some really great cameras. The Nikon Coolpix 5700 would be a great one to have, big zoom, 5mp, great lens.

cool thanks Matt!
I've checked out dpreview but there are SO many cameras to read about...*sigh*

people seem to like the Canon A60/70 line...

oh & I'd like the camera to allow the user to adjust whether the foreground or background is focused

I think all these damn criteria are leading to an extremely expensive camera....:(

I am planning to get the Fuji Finepix3800. What have you guys heard about it? I can get it for about $200 below retail...

I have the Canon Powershot S200, it's awesome (it's been discontinued). The new 3.0 and 4.0mp models are really nice too :)

 I have a Toshiba PDR-3310 and I bought it last June when 3.2 Megapixels was unheard of. It's simple to use, you can edit the size, borders, look of the picture right on the cam. It can take 15 second videos, came with a 3 yr warranty which you never need anyways as long as you don't keep it on and running around. The auto-focus is tough on the lens if it's doing it non-stop and that's what burns out. I think I paid $750 for everything (carrying case, extra storage, pic software) and I love the thing... it's allllllll about the megapixels

I'm looking too. The front runners are the Minolta XT, the Pentax Optio S, and the Sony DPU30 mini. They are all tiny like spy cams. Ultracool. But unfortunately only 2.0 megapixels. I wonder if that's good enough resolution?

Collusus, how'd the "booty at the beach" video turn out from Sylvan????

ChromeDragon
I'm seriously wondering about this new HP camera. 5mp, 8.1x optical zoom and it's been getting good reviews. Best thing is that it comes in around $700-800.

redbaron303
what about rechargeable batteries? I know some camera's don't come with them, and my canon does and it's wonderful especially for how much I use it....

The last HP I used was battery guzzling... haha :)

The Photosmart 945?

ChromeDragon
That would be the one Dave. I'm kinda paranoid about actual HP quality, but the test shots look amazing. Great resolution, huge zoom, strong macro mode. All in all it looks like a damn good deal!

Taped over this summer's V8less bbq  with my nephew's b-day!

Damn it.... :( At least it wasn't something like "shoe lace tying".....

And you asked about 2.0mp cameras, My canon is only 2.0 and it works awesome. :) 1600x1200 is the resolution, I believe.

We just got a Sony cybershot DSC-P72. Has lots of options you can play with for settings. Im still learning all its features but it seeming to be a pretty great camera. It also has alot of attatchments you can get for it as well.....bigger zoom lense, panoramic lens....even has an underwater shell you can get. also it its a battery hog like alot of other cameras I have seen.

3.2 megapixels
3x optical zoom
comes with batteries and charger
only comes with 16mb memory card though (takes 11 pics on fine and 42 sec vid with audio)

I cant say enough good things about the cameras my dad purchased over the last few years...

One is a Leica "digilux zoom". Its almost the equiv to some older Fuji FinePix cameras. Its 1.3MP, 3X zoom, smart media, 2" screen on the back.. Its old, but its still a nice camera :) Great for point and shoot.. Its really damn small too.. its about the size of the palm of your hand..

The other is a Fuji Finpix 6900Z. This is his newer camera, and I love it.. 3.3MP, but will actually output a 6MP image. It uses smart media, changeable ISO rating, autofocus, and manual focus. Plus a bunch of other features only a real photographer would know how to use (I am a point and click person mostly)

A bunch of my friends are really hot on the new Cannon Powershot A70
