just thought i'd share my ticket story - Click HERE for Original Thread

robee18a
when i totalled my car on groat. there were no witnesses. the cop had only the wreckage to tell from and my account of the events.

i got a ticket for "driving without due care and attention" $402.00 and 6 demerits

i went to "tickets" the traffic ticket people (or soem like that) and "brian" took another $500 for his fee called me one week and a half later telling me that he reduced the ticket to:

"lane violation" $115.00 and 2 demerits.

i asked him why this stuff happens and apparently there are cops out there depending on their discretion that give you the highest fine/ticket they can give you in the brakcet that you fit in. it's up to you to decide if you are guilty or not. if not then you try fight it.

in this case it was worht it for me as b/c of the insurane rise that the previous ticket would have caused. it would have been pretty much impossible for me to drive.

hope this helps you guys.

littledan
glad you got it reduced... but damn 5 bills is quite the fee

scooby_dooby
well that's a little bit of good news robee,

what a crappy system, gotta spend $500 fighting some stupid ticket, just to have it reduced in the end, such a scam

Insomniac
What is the scam?

Looks like Rob totalled his car on groat (probably driving like a knob, i appologize if my assumtion is out of wack), got a ticket he deserved, and chose to fight it because it was better for him in the long run (financially). Fortunately for him, the cop coulnd't prove his violation, other than he crashed is car.

He paid $500 to save $287, an extra 4 demerits, and 2 years of inflated insurance.

That sounds like a deal to me. I would do the same if I were in the same situation.

littledan
rob is a she...

BlueBlur
Hey.. did you tag the wall... at the top of groat
going southbound.. this weekend?
if so.. I saw some of the glass and the tire marks going into the wall....

I could kinda tell what you did too...
- front drive car
- came into the corner too hot..
- let off the gas..
- rear end starte to swing around..
- you corrected.. but now heading to the wall...
- hit the brakes and shortly thereafter.. hit the wall...

.. close?..
and glad you don't seem to be hurt.

it was very greasy that night.

Robee lost her ride a little while ago... it wasn't very recent.

Robee, I'm glad to hear that worked out for you. I told you he was expensive but it's worth it to fight the ticket because of the already ridiculous insurance we pay and the increase that would follow with a ticket like the original on your record.

no, the scam is the cop writing up a $400 ticket he knew he couldn't prove, forcing Robee to spend $500 just to get it marked down.

The police should use better discretion when writing tickets, and I if it costs $500 to get a judge to reduce it to the correct fine then the police should re-imburse the poor person who is now $500 out of pocket. This writing the maximum possible fine, and leaving the financial burden on the driver is bullshit.

Sounds like you've done that a couple time ;)

BlueBlur
Hehe..Trevor..

Did do this with my old accord.. open intersection though..
I know the physics of this manoever quite well...

good to hear the ticket and demerits were reduced.

my bro got a ticket like that before, he didn't fight it, and for three years he had an alberta id thing instead of a licence.

that sucks about cops just dishing out the highest fine they possibly can...

what's Jimbo's take on this?

Robee (row-bee) is a she, doesn't take to kindly to Rob.

robee18a
i'm trying to look at the situation positively. but no matter what i still feel like i was done some sort of injustice one way or another. i don't blame the cops for giving me that ticket. i realize the risks i took. i thought i understood the severity of the risks i used to take and obviously i don't. I lost my car guys.....i wasn't covered for collision. I put in enough money in that car to pay off half my student loans, now i have nothing. I'm lucky if i get a grand for the car itself. the aftermarket parts are worth nothing after they are bought, i knew that. but i didn't know i'd crash it.
What is even worse is that this summer was my first season autocrossing and i fell absolutely in love with it and was looking forward to racing this coming spring. I don't want any of you to ever feel this way....be careful(smart...whatever) out there.

on a side note
there was another crash on groat? they just had the wall i crashed into fixed two weeks ago.

how blue blur described it is pretty close. but i actually hit the rear left first before i hit the wall, entering the s-curve.

and yes i am a she. i don't like it when people mispronounce my name or assume i'm a "he", but i'm used to it... i don't blame them.
(thanks loy)

Robee... we'll make sure you can race! :)

When I'm at the events, which is pretty frequently, I'll donate seat time in my car if you'd like and don't have another car by that time. She's not the fastest or tightest car out there, but you should still come have some fun out there with us :)

scooby_dooby
robee, i'd let you drive my teg in an autoX.

just take it easy on my tranny ok?

Insomniac
What did Robee drive?

Flex
They didnt give you anything for your aftermarket parts....that sucks. I checked with my insurance company on that and they said in any accident they will replace my car to the exact way it is......aftermarket parts and all.

Glad to hear there were no injuries.

robee18a
i used to drive a 1990 teg
i wasn't covered for collision hence they did not cover anything. not my car or aftermarket parts.

thanks for the seat time offers guys. i'll have to turn them down though. if i'm going to bag any car it would have to belong to me. at least i won't feel guilty if i break soem. funny thing is all the times i went autocrossing i left feeling like i could have pushed it harder.......turns out i'd push it too hard in the wrong situation......i miss my car :(

I feel for you girl, trust me, I know EXACTLY how you feel.

After surveying what happened to me, I'm just grateful to be alive and in one piece.

Your car can be replaced. Your hand, arm, leg, life can't.

Just learn from your mistakes and be thankful you're alive to mod another day.
