Holy rape batman! - Click HERE for Original Thread

GirlRacer P1
I have been looking into child care for my little Dylan, and OMFG it is crazy!!
$915 a month. What the heck do I get for $915 a month? I wish Someone would pay ME $915 a month to watch Dylan.

Anonymoose
I dunno if its just me but a headline of "Holy rape batman!, child care" was somewhat disturbing.

Jockette
what side of the city do you live in?
and how old is he?

GirlRacer P1
I'm looking at Vancouver right now. I plan to move out there soon, and need to work. By that time, Dylan will only be 4 months old.

Transporter
hey my friend's mom runs a daycare/afterschool care...and she has very resonable rates...nothing beats a mother's love.
if you are interested in checking the place out PM me

oh it on the southside by 38 ave and 91 st

REFLUX
$915/month is more than just looking after 1 child Crystal.

$915/month pays for rent, food, supplies, utilities, and a GOOD daycare/childcare institution will have a ratio of no more than 3-4 children/care giver.

GirlRacer P1
Okay, thank you for the wonderful insight Terry. You wanna give me the $915 a month for child care??

Transporter: thank you very much for the suggestion. Do you happen to know anyone in Vancouver though?

Transporter
i thought you lived in edmonton..sorry no info has been added or accumulated for the vancouver region..still trying to absorb edmonton

GirlRacer P1
Don't grr at me Cheryl! I'll probably see you the same amount if I am in VanCity as I do here! *hint hint*

Jockette
oh damn =\ when are you moving to van?

GirlRacer P1
In the new year. :)

BLK_LBL

I think you could arrange that somehow. If you're spending that time each month watching him while he is dressed up in assorted costumes for catalogues. hehehehe Put that kid to work!

Not according to Alberta government... I talked to a lawyer... he does not have to take responsibility as long as he is in school and out of province.

You have a kid too Cheryl? wah..never knew

BLK_LBL
Thats why they have things like 'the night after pill, birth controll pills, needles, patches, and even condoms.

GirlRacer P1
BLK: Umm, they don't always work. We were using contraceptive.

Vince, I think she meant the 240.

SlowAzzPorsche911T
maybe don't move there til you can afford the care for him or til he's grown up? obviously your ex can't afford 915/month if he's a student. Even if he's working p/t he'd be lucky to get 2/3 of that.

240Babe
actually, i meant brad

Find a Family day home that has 1-4 kids in it and is run from the woman's own house. I'm sure if you ask around the hood you will find one.

They are around 400.00 per kid and because there are fewer kids they get sick less and are more happy there.
There are other benifets like if your late they won't freak because its a house not a business front .......................

Just make sure she comes with high recommendations, the house is clean, toy equiped and the woman's kids are obviously brought up nice.

The 915$ is MORE than just WATCHING the child... once again, re read the above quote. I mean, you do feed the child etc don't you??

GirlRacer P1
There are a lot of rude people on this board.
I STILL do not pay 915 a month on food (that is going through a big can of Enfamil A+ formula a week at 25/per can), diapers(A 82 pack for about a week and a half for 20 dollars), etc (exactly what IS in the etc???) for Dylan.

Thank you for the recommendation Roger. Robin had also told me about a dayhome, and I will be looking into that when I do need it.

Oohhh.. on a good note, other than thank you for the recs of those who are willing to HELP me, not critisize me.... is that Dylan had his 3 month checkup today, and he is doing great!!!!

SlowAzzPorsche911T
you could save 100/mo by breast-feeding!!! and buy cloth diapers and re-wash them

GirlRacer P1
Matt: I can't breastfeed any more, even if Dylan caught on.

As for cloth..... EWWWWW!!!!!!
I was not complianing on how much I spend pon Dylan... I do that gladly. :) I was using it as a comparison.

Ever heard of Mandy Lam? Good reason not to trust day homes.

C'mon Dave, don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch. You just have to do your research when finding a day home, that is all. Scare tactics are a thing of American media, are you American Dave? hehehe j/k

Hey Steve; He deprived himself....
When I had discussed it in the hospital after having to switch to formula because he was not eating at all, the pedatrition told me that because he was 5 weeks premie, that he may not have gotten that instinct. It wasn't for lack of trying, with having the nurses helping as much as they could, and many tearful nights.
Dylan just didn't want to do it. He is much happier with his bottle, and that is all that matters. He never lost weight after he was born like many newborns do, and he has already gone past the double his birthweight mark.

GirlRacer P1
Mind telling me why you have to be rude?

I personally just do not like them., is that a problem? I have a weak stomache so I prefer the disposable diapers, I find they have less of an odour.

how do you gather my question was rude? hahah, good one. oops, apparently question asking is now rude.

I thought the "EWWWWW" was really inappropriate. That's why I asked what the problem was.

GirlRacer P1
Innapropriate? Are you a mom??

no, my god, I thought it was childish...

"EWWWW a dirty cloth diaper... waaaaa" :crying:
do you get it now? especially when it can be a means of saving money, geez

GirlRacer P1
In case you did not read my post on page two, which you must have if you responded to the ewww statement, I wrote "I was not complianing on how much I spend on Dylan... I do that gladly."
I don't mind spending the extra money here and there for something that makes Dylan and I comfortable.
I was making a comment anbout the child care prices in BC. Alberta is less expensive for day homes, and thanks to Roger and Robin, I have a good idea of what I want for my son.

Z3r03rr0r
My niece and nephew go to a day home and they love it. Crystal somethign you may want to look into is subsidy as well. When my nephew was first born my sister didn't have a lot of income when going back to work and needed a decent option, the subsidy from the Gov't really helped her out, the day home still gets there full amount but you only have to pay x-amount as compared to your income and monthly costs.

GirlRacer P1
Thank you!!! I'll take a look into that. :)

Z3r03rr0r
anything to help a mom who is trying to do the best for her kid
