ok wierd thing happend to my friends nissan in the mornin today we started it wormed up drove few blocks no heat!!!! cold air, engine i worm so i figure heater core. that 2 blocks later i look and his engine temp is on the maX!!!! so park check it out antifreeze s gushing through overflow bucket. well now i'm thinking water pump. let it sit for a bit refilled rad with some :wtf: water from the reddi mart.drove for a bit temp went to the max again and still no heat so parked it went to eat breakfast. came back started it warmed up drove home no problem no overheating, warm in the car. what was that ???? i'm thinking maybe he had water mainly not antifreeze in his rad so it froze and created ice block than while engine was on max heat cooling off ice melted and everything is fine now.its sitting in the garage i'm gonna drain his cooling fluid well now its mainly water and replace it with antifreeze than see if still does it tomorrow morning.

Hmmmm, sounds like a blockage like you described. Wouldn't be the Thermostat either... hmmm

That sounds like the thermostat. The same thing happened when i changed the thermostat in my dads truck (ka24e) the temp gauge went to almost max with no heat in the truck then it started going down and there was heat again. I assumed that the thermostat was closed because there was some air in the system and when things got hot enough it opened and everything went back to normal.

Check with one of those hydrometer things then decide. |

It would probably be smarter to have NO water in the system over the winter time. Then there is no chance of it freezing. But yeah, possible Thermostat. Although the overflow canister was boiling over, right? And if it was too hot, I doubt there was a block of ice still in the rad. Could be a major type of air lock. I know my car was doing that at first, I had an air lock, and that temp gauge was all over the place, hot and then cold, and also that would cause different temps of heat to come out of the heater. Weird.

yah i think major airlock becouse of water getting frozen and than melted cuz right now car runs fine. yah it was poring from overflow bucket.. i'll just tell him to change antifreeze.

hey but if there is an airlock how would that cause bucket to overflow?wouldn't that just f@ck up the temp gage and cut off the heat?

With air in the system, it must be evacuated. elevate teh front end take off the rad cap and let the engine burp itself.
