Our traffic laws and aftermarket items - Click HERE for Original Thread

We all know we get harrassed for stupid shit like mufflers and tint and coloured lights on our cars... if we have that stuff

I've heard that if you've got a car from out of the country and it was legally imported then such things as tint tickets and enlarged exhaust tip tickets don't count.... or will be thrown out in court...

Does anyone know if this is true or should I be peeling the 5% tint off the front windows of my car?

I just heard a rumour that it certain things are exempt on your vehicle if that's how it came (similar to the way some older late 70s/80s cars came w/ faCTORY dip tinted front windows)...

So am I still exempt or is that just a lie?! The gov't is saying it's alright to import the car w/ these items on it that violate local traffic laws, but if I get the tickets is this something I would have a chance of fighting in our courts?!

MightyMidget
Chris,

IIRC dipped is a film so that = NO
windows that have factory tint(like back windows on cars, trucks, SUV's) = OK

and I don't believe that there are any 'exemptions' because a car was imported.....so it's hit and miss just like always!!!

Do you mean if its stock? As in street legal in another country, but not here?

If the car is all OEM and you imported it here, I dont think you have to worry about any tickets. I think the main goal of all the regulations is to discourage people from modifying their cars. Like spline said before, his headlights are lower than the legal limit, but as long as the car isnt lowered, he shouldnt get tickets.

And going along with your reference, Today you have to have tailights that are visable from the side of the vehicle, they wrap around abit. Or side markers.
But many older 80's cars didnt, just a square tailight in the bumper etc.

I dunno, just some thoughts.

limo tintedfront windows are legal in Japan... and a lot of cars have tint and such that would be illegal here... I don't feel like peeling tint off the windows, so I was jsut wondering if it was a legal situation or what?

Then I"ll take my chances for now....

But if it's factory then they can't give me a ticket right?

IIRC factory glass has the tint in the glass....so there is no way of getign it out.....

and which car are we talking about here??

S

redbaron303
How can I prove it's "factory" ?!

SplineZ
RPO codes, and a sheet stating which codes are what :)

Chris quit trying to get around the laws!!!!! It doesn't matter if the car was legal like that in another country....it's in Canada now so it has to abide by the laws HERE!!!

S

TofuBoi

and if it's factory, it's legal here.... so I'm trying to figure out how I can prove that with out hiring a lawyer for something so stupid... I"m not a bout to replace windows that aren't tinted w/ film, you know the illegally tinted ones. I'll be more than pissed if some cop messed up my factory tinted windows because he thinks they're some shitty aftermarket job.

I keep hearing that if it's factory it's legal: tint, hids, etc... All I want to know is how can I prove this? And if the documents I need to prove this are in another language is it my responsibility to have them translated? Do you or do you not have an answer for this?

if the glass has no FILM on it then it would be like factory...right??

AND yes I would assume that it is your responsibility to show proof that they are like that from the factory....if they are indeed from the factory.

I have a solution:

Tint = Gay

REFLUX
there are lawyers that give free consultation (like a free assessment??)

you better make friends with lots of lawyers chris...you seem to enjoy playing around with the law

redbaron303
That's what I meant steve, stock tint, dipped windows from the factory not obviously illegally film tinted windows we get here....

T - I'm taking law classes but of another sort, not this stuff and I'm not that in depth with them yet... :(

I got my 2nd tint ticket lastnight, I had the tint put on in late august. I am now peeling it off because of albertas f@cked up vehical equipment laws, soon we wont even be aloud to scratch our ass in our vehicals without being ticketed, and I wouldnt put it past the alberta government to come up with something like that.

If exhaust/tint/lights are illegal then why not arrest the vendors, drugs are illegal and the dealer would get arrested, how is it any different.

:werd: Trying to blame the vendors for you getting a ticket? Come on, You have the power to buy or not to buy. If you choose to buy, you take the chance of getting a ticket. Im sure what we really need is the government to add more regulations to vendors as well and then that will solve the problem....

how much was the fine?

i'm just wondering, cause my first year of owning the car I got like 6 or 8 tint fines, but they were only $39.

For some wierd reason the cops have decided to stop bustin my balls, at least for the last 4months, and I'm just wondering how much the fines have gone up...

I know, it seems rational, and common sense are traits amoung people that are few and far between these days. It scares me the way the world along with soceity is heading these days. Apparently, nothing is ever your fault. You can always blame somebody else. Who knew?

Actually, a cop in a bad mood could probably give you a stunting ticket for it.

Keith303
i donno if the tint degree matters, but with limo tint on all windows was $57 back in sept and $57 now

scooby_dooby
$57 is not to bad, up from $39, at least that's a reasonable increase, i was afraid they had made it like $200 or something.
