| I know this has been out for a bit now. It's the newest bylaw about sound systems. Anyways, what is the law about this? Please give me the details. Some guy at our school got a ticket for his system. The cop told him he could hear it 3 blocks away. Anyways, details. Thanks guys. |

| at what point is ones car stereo deemed "too loud". bass travels very far and easy even at low volumes, I quess its hard to define a specific guidline for whats overly loud. Or is there a certain DB that you cannot go above? |

No measure of the sound level in decibels needs to be taken?
As well, could they also give you a stunting ticket for it if you were a bitch to them? |

i dont think that they could give you a stunting ticket IF they have given you a Bylaw tag already.....it is double jeopardy.

I think the old rule used to be 110 db now its 85, this goes for any sound coming from your car/truck etc. This includes your girlfriends moaning.
I would dig out my print out of the TSA but its in my car and its dam cold :D

Noise limits are for the track, not at home afaik :)
Cops dont carry DB meters to give noise violations... to my knowledge

Could be,
It is in the TSA though, perhaps it only applies to exhaust and such?

for the noise bylaw they can and have given tickets......they do NOT need a db meter to give one. the jist of it is that if the noise is obtrusive to other people etc......the police have to be there to wintess the "loudness" though.

| So if a cop were to hear it, he could automatically write you a ticket? Even with no complaints from anyone? |

yes and no......they have to give a warnign first...then a second trip is $250, and if they have to make subsequent trips the 3rd will be $500 and the fourth $730 IIRC.....

$250 ?!?! FOR THE FIRST TIME ?!?! OH MY FUCKIN GOD!!! And that's only after a warning. Jesus Christ. Who the hell can afford that? Is it demerits too? If it is, is it demerits every "sound violation" ticket? Well that's just going to suck because I wanted to put a couple 18" Kicker Solo-X's in my new car. They are 100 pounds each and are packing 5000 watts RMS, 10,000 Watts peak   |

rright your gonna put 2 solo-x's in your daily driver, you obviously know nothing about car audio. Allthough your prolly kidding which I hope you are because....
solo-x canadian $1000+ x2
you would need atleast a jbl A6000GTI to each which is $6000 a peice
not to mention a 40 cu ft box and about 8 batteries and a 400amp alt
nobody likes those who are full of POO :gay:  |

back on topic boyz....................
and yes 250 for the first.....and it goes up for 2nd and 3rd like i said......its a lot but there are NO demerits as such a fine is usually given to house parties etc.

How about a good clear definition of the noise bylaw?
I have 3 rattle trap exhaust morons and 2 Loud as heck stereos in my area.
Problem is, whenever I call, the cops always arrive too late.
The bylaw that is iin effect 24hrs a day, what are the details on this?.
I thought there was only an "After 10 pm" noise bylaw?... |

IIRC if the noise if obtrusive to others and the police wintess it.....kinda like that.
AND the noise bylaw IS in effect 24hrs a day......there is a huge misconception about the after 10pm thing.....

| Well I can tell you one thing, if a cop wants to, he will give you a ticket. Ive passed by numerous cops with my stereo rattling their and my car. If they want to be nice they just look over at you and point downwards, meaning turn it down. But if they wanted to be pricks, they could own you with tickets. One good thing with my stereo however is that its not overly loud on the outside, you just hear a bunch of rattles, even with dynamat. Its the penetration that really gets you though, you can hear it much more if your in a sealed area, like a house. So one thing might be to suggest is that you get a setup where you get deep penetration, but not overly loud. Generally, the larger the sub, the more penetration. So your 8's and 10's probably wouldnt be a good idea to get. |

Acually, some of that was probably over exaggerated. I know a guy who used to compete with Kicker subwoofers for 6 years. Even he said he didn't need all of that shit.... |

I really dont think your able to listen to 5000 watts rms in normal driving conditions. :P
18's solo-X's are tha shiet! good choice in subs  KICKER    |

actually no, none of what I said is exadurated
If your going to buy pro comp stuff then it has to be powerd properly and if you dont meet its power requirements you wont be very happy, they arnt like 100-300 $ subs where you can power them with afair less power then reccomended and still get good results.
not to mention overall weight of this, your looking at 1200+ pounds added to your vehical, now unless you own a truck this wouldnt work |

| Im wondering why the hell you would want such a system. Ok so fine, you want a loud system. It doesnt take much. If you spend 2G's ( retail, not online ) smartly you can get a system that you can hear 3 or 4 blocks away if your in a house. To put subs that require 5000W rms apeice is just insane. Your better off getting a couple of 10's -> 15's and giving them a decent amount of juice. Obviously, this guy doenst know too much about car audio, and thats perfectly ok, hell 2 years ago, I knew shit all. Just a rule of thumb though, make sure you amp is nice and powerful. Generally, I found that if you spend about 1G on an amp, and about 1G on subs, you will get a decent system thats nice and loud, and doesnt attract all the cops attention. That said, play it responsibly. Dont be a dick like a kid across the street and blast his stereo at 1 in the morning on a work night, that just aint cool. Thank god the dumbass blew his system. |

The legal limit is 110db @ idle (we have had to test a few cars for court)
And if you are making noise "afterdark" then you can get a ticket :( but cops are a little easy going in some area's (whyte, jasper, whitemud ;) ) basicly if some one calls in and complains about being too loud ex. me in DABEAST (95 Geo Metro w/ 8 15" Image Dynamic subs and ORION "Beast" amps powering heheheh) you can get a ticket!
