Hey I was wondering if anyone has any information on this for me:
Just in the last couple of days my car has been idling weird. I’ll start the car in the morning and it will proceed to warm up as usual, about 1200 rpm till it’s warm, but once it’s warm the idle speed wants to bounce around from less that 500 to about 1500 rpms. What’s the deal? Sometimes it will even stall itself after driving or sitting there and idling for a bit. When under acceleration it seems to perform normally. I plan on getting it fixed today or tomorrow if I can’t take care of it myself. I was hoping you guys might have some insight for me.
Could it be E.R.G. Control Valve? Spark Plugs? Timing? Injectors? Exhaust Gas Sensor? I doubt it is Fuel pressure, ignition coil, or intake leak. Note it starts fine and all electrical seems to be in working order.
The car has 190 Km on it and has been well maintained. Had an oil change less than 2 weeks ago. This just recently crept up on me. :o
Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

Not to mention, check the: throttle position sensor, coolant temp sensor... etc. the list goes on.
Its hard to diagnose someone else's car without experiencing the symptoms and frequency firsthand.
You could probably pick up a shop manual for your car at Ericksen for relatively cheap. With that, you'd have a detailed list of all the most likely causes (sometimes listed in a logical order of probability) that you could troubleshoot one after the other until you nail it. Or if you're lazy, just take it in. <_<
Idle problems, particularly if intermittent, can be a bitch to fix sometimes. |

I was having the same prob last summer, and I had to replace one of my wire harnesses, cause it was causing my engine to missfire. |

Hi there, did you check the AIV valve? sometimes the reeds inside it get dirty and need to be cleaned. Or if you want to you can remove the whole setup, its mostly there for emissions, and Ive heard from several people that have removed theirs that it greatly improved their idle and throttle response. Just a thought ;)
BTW: if you do end up cleaning the reeds make sure NOT to try to seperate them, if you do they will have to be replaced... even if they are only a mm apart |
