Anybody know anything about tape decks? - Click HERE for Original Thread

My stock deck in my winter beater is really starting to piss me off. It was working fine but now, when you put in a tape and hit play, it just keep switching sides. It will play for a second or two then switch sides, play for a second or two and then switch back. This seems to cause the tapes to unravel like crazy, so i have to pull out all the loose "tape" out of the player. I really wanna fix this as I don't wanna go out a get a deck installed in the beater. Any one have any ideas, I know it's a long shot.

You're not beating it hard enough! You have too much respect for your beater!

I know my tape deck in Old Bluey did that when it was cold.
It didn't like winter at all.

your rollers could be hardended (or be super dirty) and pinching the tape causing it to flip back and forth.. There is some capstan cleaning solution you can buy from london drugs (last i knew they carried it) and put it on a q-tip swab'em out.. they will probly be black. This might clean them enough to work.. if not .. time to find a 50 dolla deck and install it :)

Dude you work at A&B. Just "acquire" yourself a nice cheap(free) deck. hehehe

You've gotta be able to pick up some discontinued thing for under $100.
