| I'm driving by a T.H. after going to the gym and I see 5 units parked. 3 of them are running, 2 are not. In this time of supposed fiscal restraint and rising taxes why do police have their cars running when on their breaks. Note above 3 were running and 2 were not. If you multiply that by all the shifts and all the breaks on those shifts that adds up to a lot of money spent for fuel while cars are idling. Some are K-9 units and I can understand the need to have those running in cold or hot weather, but none of the above mentioned units appeared to be a K-9 unit. |

they need to have the cars warm and up to temp just in case they get "the call" and have to go balls to the walls to get there. The radio and in car computer suck the battery too....
nothing like revving the carp out of a cool/cold car!! Plus if the cars windows fog or ice up ...if you can't see anything going to a call then that I think would be kinda bad.

some others may disagree but I think it is a valid reason.....it's not like the firefighters where they have heated fire halls that the trucks come from.....the police acutally drive when they are on shift :P(low blow at firefighters)

I have given the Timmys police meeting place much thought and came to this astounding conclusion. They are open 24hrs and available around the clock, numerous locations in all areas of the city and therefore convenient. Bingo, frequent meeting place of city police. |

if you're so worried about all that tax money going to waste on gas then go out and convert all thier crown vics to turbo diesles (sp). that way if they need to idle thier cars it won't cost a thing
:P |

SplineZ and I went to Tim's tonight on 184 st at about 11:00 and in the 30 minutes that we were there, we must have seen about 10-15 officers, in about 7-9 cars total. Most of them were left running although a few were shut off.
I think the cops were doing checkpoints tonight though, because I heard that there was one on 170 St northbound by Yellowhead. |

| Well instead of worrying about the cops being in Tim Horton's, you might want to think that the more they are in there, the less they are out on the road ticketing your illegal mufflers and other infractions. And the next time you leave your place of work, try shutting the heat right off and then come in the next day to work. If you had to drive around in a Crown Vic, you'd probably get cranky too, 'specially if it was cold. |

If you're worried about gas, think of how much is wasted keeping old farts warm in their photo radar vans (and SUVs I've noticed lately), just so they can 'enforce' the law in comfort.
AH.. gotta love the EPD. Sure glad I don't pay taxes within the city. |
