Mekanik22
What is a Japanese dollar worth compared to the Canadian dollar? So if a car in Japan costs $16,000, (I know it's not called dollars over there. I don't know what it is) how much would that be in Canadian dollars? Thanks all.

1 canadian dollar is worth 82 japanese yen according to yahoo currency exchange.

MightyMidget

Well if the car is 16,000yen then you're looking at about $195 cdn.

I'm not sure where you're seeing this price for a car, but it's most likely already listed in Canadian dollars.

Oh my god. I must be mixed up because if a car in Japan is, 16,000 yen, and that's only $195 canadian, do you know how many canadian car enthusiasts would own cars that are legal in Canada like Evos, Supras, and all those beautiful cars? I just saw an ad that contained cars for sale in Japan and was thinking it wasn't Canadian because it had some f@cked up symbol in front of it, probably the symbol for "yen". So am I confused, or are cars import from Japan HELLA cheap?

Cars being imported from Japan are not hella cheap. There's a thing called "import fees" and those rack up a nice tab real easy. Don't get the wrong impression b/c of what the currency is exchanged for, there's a lot more that goes into buying a car from Japan then you know :)

One thing I'd like to know is why all these japanese guys are selling their vehicles that are like 5yrs old?

I heard they get some sort of tax break..

There are various reasons. It gets costly to drive in Japan.

Buying locally you can do a private sale and not worry about much more than exchanging money for keys/bill of sale.... when importing a car there's a lot that goes into it. :)

S'all good Steve :)

i think after 60,000km's you cant drive a car in japan anymore or something? they ahve some sort of laws that force you to change cars so it keeps pollution and rusting beaters off the street.

thats what i heard anyways

Ummm, that's not true. They do have very strict emitions laws however. They are getting more and more strict every year, so many cars are not passing emissions later on. The cost to replace all the emissions equipment is not worth it to many people so they just buy new cars. You've gotta understand that Japan is a far cry from here, not everyone owns cars, usually it's only the upper classes. It costs ALOT of money to drive over there.
