well, it wasnt really easy, it took up my whole day... starting off in the west end and ending up in northtown... but the guy in the west end, miscalculated the amount of watts i was going to need to power the subs, and they didnt have the amp i originally wanted.......that the guy sent me to pick up... so i bitched and complained at northside, and they set me up...... i started with 3 10's and an amp, and ended up with the setup above.... |

Mag,
Let me know if Dylan and the boyz help you out, I can do the 4g wire kit to the rear of your car at the same time. I did mine then had certified finish it because I ran out of time.
Its all good.

well, i cruised to tec on the westend and picked up 4guage power wire/ and ground wire... brandon had the power wire from my battery to the trunk wired in like 10min.. hehe.... now, i want to keep my stock deck -for now- and my deck doesnt supply rca outputs.. now here is the funny part... a 760.00 digital amp from alpine doesnt support high level inputs.. lol... so i need to find a converter of some sort... i heard jb's sells em, anyone else know where i can get them... also, i'm just tapping into my stock subwoofer for now... so we'll see how it all works out... that and i need to know where i can get a gain control knob... leme know if you guys know who sells this shit...
oh and sunil, the bodykit isnt on hold... i'm made of money dude...
i'm still looking for a deal.... and i had 2 12inch kicker comps before in my cavy before..., i'm leaning toward quality sound now over sloppy heart stopping base.... |

Damn, well hook a po brotha up!!
My single Kicker CompVR sounds really clean cause I balanced it out with some pretty good mids and tweets.
It's pretty similar to my last setup, don't know if you heard it. This time I went with a higher grade mid / tweets combo. You'll hear it soon. |

1000 bucks for all that?! Sorry to say this but....ouch! There's much better performing equipment out there for cheaper.
All you'd need is one of each:
Single 12" Adire Audio Brahma ($379+shipping USD) http://www.adireaudio.com/Merchant2/mercha...egory_Code=2000
Tsunami DB1100 (1100WRMS @ 1ohm, said to be underrated) ($220+shipping USD)
http://www.avionixxusa.com/ep/db1100.htm
The myth about 10's sounding "tighter" than 12's and 15's is exactly that...a myth...Sure back in the day it was true when the motors weren't nearly as strong, but in this day and age it's just not true any more...15's can and do sound as "tight" as 10's...they aren't "sloppy". |
|

| Lll_J |
Cheaper? Not really. For what you listed, that would come out to be $800.00 CAD, Add GST and shipping, and your well over 900 bucks.

Cheaper AND better performing.
Since when did $900 = $1000?? It doesn't...$900 is less than $1000, therefore cheaper. |

Shivas kick ass for the price too. I had a couple 12" Brahmas, but sold them...but they've now updated the basket to a 12 spoke and coned dustcap, much better looking IMO. |

A small nail or tack should be able to lever that thing out..
The only problem with ordering stuff from the states is warrenty work. With a local shop you can take it there and replace it on the spot. Mailing stuff back and forth is expensive, and a pain in the ass..

Uhh read again. WELL OVER 900 bucks if not more than $1000. Better performing? maybe. Cheaper? No.

*sigh*
You said well over 900...not this "if not more than $1000"...maybe you should go back and read what YOU said again...let's do some simple math here:
379 (sub) + 220 (amp) + 60 (shipping for both) = 659USD
659USD = 882.86CDN (according to XE.com)
882.86CDN * 7% GST = 944.62CDN
This may be "well over 900" in your books, but according to some elementary math, it's still LESS THAN 1000, therefore "cheaper". You can bet your ass it's better performing too.
Enough of arguing semantics...
Magnum, try some needlenose pliers if part of the RCA input is sticking out, or try SplineZ's suggestion.
SplineZ, the problem with local shops is that they only carry the mainstream brands, RF, Kicker, Alpine, Audiobahn (barf), etc. The esoteric brands aren't readily available to us in shops, though they might be coming soon... :D There are a couple of online places which carry these estoteric brands and are in Canada, only trouble is that you pay a bit more: http://www.genuinecanadianaudio.com/
http://www.creativesound.ca/ |
|
|
| Lll_J |
You forgot Brokerage Fees, and the Brokerage GST. Use your elementary Math skills to add those on too.
Oh and GST on 882.86 is 944.66, I thought this was elementary math here?
Yes well over 900 is less than 1000. But take into consideration the practicality issue.
Geez, point is its pretty much the same price! That was my point, not trying to be an asshole as your first reply was. What is with people here.

hah. I cant believe one of those placse is in abbotsford... of all places..
I agree with you on the point that most shops around town carry mainstream crap, but ive run across a few that carry the exotic brands..
Another bad thing about ordering them from elsewere, is that you cant listen to them. I mean sure you can take someones word for it, but half the fun is going to places and listening ;)
Im gunna check out those url btw.. i need a new amp for my system..

There are no brokerage fees when you use USPS...therefore no "brokerage GST"... with USPS all you pay is a $5.00 handling charge (forgot to add that in there) and GST on the Insured value...much better than those ridiculous "brokerage" fees that UPS charges. But you already knew that, right? -_-
I'm sorry my calculator was not up to snuff...maybe it was my dyslexia kicking in, who knows.
What is this practicality issue now? I buy all of my stuff from the US, there's nothing un-practical about it.
Pretty much the same price does not mean it IS the same price... 944.66 < 1000 not 944.66 = 1000
It wasn't my intent to come off as an asshole either, just open up other better performing possibilities to other people for less money.
Like I said, enough arguing semantics.
SplineZ, I'm not sure if either of those companies sells them, but check out the Avionixx amp lines, excellent bang for the buck.
Magnum, what is it that broke? Was it a part of the RCA cable that broke inside the amp? Or was it the amp's RCA input that broke off? The former would be a quick fix and all you'd need to buy is another set of RCAs, though the latter would require a new RCA input to be soldered into the amp... :( |

Damn 30 dollar diagnostic fee...
If I was still in Edmonton, I could've taken a look at it for ya, sounds like all you needed to do was pull the prong out, either with needlenose or a pin. It doesn't sound like it needs a new RCA input, though. :wtf:
Good luck with that. :) |

nah, i ended up forcing the prong so deep in the socket there is no way you could get it out...i think i may have even punched it right through the input itself.... |
