Sub specs? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Do you guys know of a easy or easier way of calculating how much volume you will need for a sub. I will be building a fiberglass enclosure for a 10 or 12 inch sub that follows the curves in my trunk, so I wanted to know how to make the box the right size so the sub doesn't sound like crap. The reason I ask is because the enclosure will not be square so it is not as easy as making it x inches by xinches by x inches. Any help in this topic would be great or any sujjestions of where I can go in the city to get help. Thanks guys

ya it's really easy. you goto <insert manufacturer>.com and download the white paper for your sub. They'll recommend volumes.

for calculating the volume of your fibreglass enclosure, i don't think there's an easy way, gonna have to use a lil geometry!

find a calculus genius, your best bet is to try and keep it as square as possible inside the enlosure so as to make it easier to calculate, with most subs you have about +- 0.1 cubic feet of play in actual spacial volume to play with. You could check with ralphie at certified he is fairly knowledgable. He posts as Dopey88 though not recently.

download winISD, input your sub specs and adjust the size of the box until you get a frequency graph you desire. a QTC of .707 seems to be the best mix of SQ and SPL from what i understand.

The aim of that Q is to give you the flattest in-car response.

A QTC of 0.5 is said to be "transient-perfect"...only problem is that the box size winds up being ridiculously large.
