Edmonton police officer that pulled me over was an uber prick.
Dec 22 I get 2 tickets ... 3 days before christmas!
Maybe you guys can describe where I was even because I dont know.. I was meeting my Grandma and my Dad at Southgate mall for lunch before I head back home.. I went up to visit family for xmas and as well my cousin recently had a double lung transplant.
I was coming down 53avenue apparently :confused: and I was doing 101 in an 80zone ...
If I was doing 101 it was on Whitemudd, no way I was on an avenue doing that .. and as well, I was coming off of 159 street to get onto whitemud .. heading towards (east?) southgate .. <-- where tf is this ??
About 111 St I see a white cop car behind me lights a flashing .. I pull over, guys like you were doing 101 on 53ave .. I kind of shrugged and was like ok .. Could barely hear him with traffic going by on whitemud ( i pulled off the sid ethere was some pulloverzone by a park of some sort) then he's like .. Why do you have an illegal muffler on your car. With truth I said, I purchased my car and it had this muffler on it. He said well why did you buy the car then? .. Well sir because at the time I as not aware it was illegal to have a modified muffler. HE says well its loud and people have to listen to that. I said yes sir, I agree and I have already purchased a new exhaust that is quiet as stock. He says well I'm giving you a ticket for your exhaust.. I'm like ok thats alright then .. just an exhaust ticket ...

Guy comes back with 2 tickets ... one for a modified exhaust and the other for a 101 in an 80zone ??? $115 for the muffler, $129 for the speeding. Cuz 3 days before xmas just a speeding ticket isn't enough .. :asshole:
Living in Calgary how should I go about fighting these tickets at LEAST to get no demerits ... If my exhaust is quiet as stock and built to emissions spec, can I get the exhaust ticket waived since my receipt for purchasing the new muffler is BEFORE I even left to Edmonton. It's a Greddy SP ( I drive a 92 Prelude)
I've thought about Pointts but how much would that cost??
Any input on where I was to get that ticket (so at least I know) as well as what I can do to fight them / experiences speaking to justice of the peace / crown prosecuter in Edmonton is much appreciated! |

| I can see him giving you a speeding ticket if you were speeding(just cuz your from calgary doesn't mean yo ucan speed). As for the muffler apart from a big outlet (I asume there is a big outlet on your car) How could he tell it was a loud muffler on the whitemud, you could barley hear him but he could tell your muffler was loud while driving on the white mud? I would ask how he could tell how loud it was while driving on a freeway, must have super human hearing I guess. Good luck with it. |

gee...i hate cops for giving me a ticket for speeding, when i already know i was doing 100 in a 80 zone. i do understand the hard feelings about the muffler but i am sure you knew it was illeagal so guess what you got a ticket you broke the law...
sorry i just dont understand why when people break the law and get caught they get angry???
if i steal and get caught do i bitch about the dam guy that caught me? no it was my actions and i BROKE a law..
its also how you react to the officer sometimes, jim caught me once for the led exaust tip just chatted about it and so be it he was kind and warned me. but i was not speeding and having illeagal stuff all over. |

I agree with you about being angry etc. BUT
I told him I had already purchased a new muffler and he ticketed me anyways.
I addressed the problem, made action to fix my car to make it street legal and he still ticketed me ... the fact its 3days before xmas rubs salt in the wound and he was a dick taboot..
If he was polite and said , I gotta ticket you ... different story but he was an ass.
anybody have info on how much points would cost ?
in Edmonton is it usually pretty easy to get the tickets reduced? |

pointts will run you about 430$ i think. what i would do first is have family/friend go speak to the crown procecutor for you, and try to get it reduced.
the edmonton CP always reduces it at least a bit if you speak with him. they could either pretend they are you, or just say they are there on your behalf. the CP never even asked my name whenever i've seen him.
if you can't get it reduced with the CP, then state you don't want to make a decision yet, THEN hire pointts.
when i search 53rd ave in map.msn.com, i only get 4 small stretches of road, and NONE appear to be an 80 zone, they look like 50. if you know which street you were near, i can doublecheck the limit for you next time i take whitemud.
if this is true, then your ticket may be dropped because it has incorrect information.
up to 15km over is 2demerits, 16-30over is 3 demerits. the CP will probably offer to reduce the ticket to 10 over for you, he doesn't like to give out Registered Owner (like photoradar, a fine but no demerit) tickets for some reason. you could always take defensive driving course, 3 demerits are removed from your abstract when you do.
about the muffler, as far as i know there is no set decibel limit, it's up to the officer to determine if it's noise is 'excessive'. any one else know otherwise? |

a. come to edmonton to visit the cp or fight your case
b. hire pointts
fyi, the greddy sp isnt legal either, mods never are. |
