What tranny fluid? - Click HERE for Original Thread

high school
Im stuck. I dunno what tranny fluid to use. Do i go with like red line synthetic or do i stick with the dealership recommended GM Syncromesh? Ive heard syncromesh can be just as good as any synthetic or is this a load of shit? I was told anything synthetic would be best? any comments?

I'm heard a few people recommend gm syncromesh

Pro Drag
BG Syncroshift, hands down.Proven time and again.

Im gunna say GM Synchromesh.. which is what you should use anyways :) GM engineered the stuff for the rigors of our notchy transmissions..... and everybody is startin to use it. Ive seen it recomended for use in manuals from ford to hondas, chevy and mitsu...

BG Synchroshift is VERY expensive (24bux a quart?), but its supposed to be good..

GM's stuff is around 6-9 dollars a bottle if you can find it :) (canadian tire west end has it.. you have to ask the manager for it by name cuz its not in the computer; or the Chevy farm.. ) Penzoil also makes "sychromesh" fluid, and its supposed to be the same as GM's for alot less.. if you can find that it shoudl work the same for ya

I bought 2 bottles from Pro Drag. I'm pretty sure he has a couple bottles kicking around.

Redline MT-90

I put GM Syncromesh into my tranny....no noticeable improvement, infact my shifter felt MORE notchy

well i ended up buyin syncromesh cuz i heard some stories of people using non-gm fluid in their gm cars and it apparantly didnt do their trannys any good. true or not? hard to say. I flushed it out, and during shifting on my first change, it seemed a smidge better, but not much... im hoping itll be better now, but not likely. Hopefully itll smoothen out once it gets warmer outside.

Flush again soon...you have no idea how messy it gets inside of a trannsmission.

according to the dealerships, the 5 speed manuals in GM cars only need to be flushed every 85,000kms. I was 5000 kms over. Oops.

Ummmm...maybe according to how they'd recommend to drive it...but even then, that's just way too long for me...I dont' think I can do that with mine...I change mine every 10K or less according to how I drive. haha
