Hids, Who Has Them?? Help Me - Click HERE for Original Thread

2k3Civic
hey, for whoever has hids in their car, just a couple of questions. someone told me that hids will get too hot and melt if u have aftermarket headlights which have a plastic lense, is this true? i also heard that anything over factory wattage which i think is 55Watts or something will melt it, i don't recall my HID box saying how many watts it is, but then i'm not at home and looking at it, what do u guy's think i should do? i'm thinking that if i do have this problem, i should pop the headlights open and get some glass shop to custom make a glass lense for me to replace my plastic ones... good idea? or am i just an idiot and wasted my money? TIA.

I am not sure about it melting your headlights.. I know it only uses around 30-40 watts. and produces three times than the normal halogen. The only time it actually uses major voltage is the initial start up. i think it requires 30,000 volts or something taht the ballast need.

thx alot man, i also have some other sources that told me the same as well, good to know i didn't waste the money for nothing...

do you have projectors, reflectors, or refractors ??

each one has its up and downs.

their actually angel eyes, but i tried the bulb in them and they fit pretty good.. cept i have to cut this metal slot that is blocking the wire from the HID bulb from entering. but hopefully it should work out. what are reflector's/refractors?

durt
reflectors are just a type of headlights. It is basically have different angles on the back housing while Refractors have angles on the lens itself to direct the light. Reflectors and refractors have good wider angle than Projector, the projector will throw a better focus point..

what do you mean by angel eyes?. angel eyes comes from bmw that i can think of at the moment.. It has the ring around the main headlight..

yup, that's the one, like the 5 series angel eyes.. cept i don't think their that bright, do u think u could see the angel eyes at night with my HIDS? or would the HIDS just drown out the angel eyes?
