| Only reason I would ever buy a MAC is if I was doing major graphics / 3d animation work...and even then I probably wouldn't. |

I've got the last of the G3 iBooks, a 900mhz, it's the best comp I've ever owned, mainly it being my first, great for photography, video, web design and the such.

Congrats on daring to different! :)
"the laser tylenol" LOL it reminds me of a tampon
Old Macs are one button only, the new OS's support muti button just like a PC.
Macs are better at graphics is a myth! Older Macs that are still built under a closed architecture are faster at graphics becuse it the chip was built into the motherboard. New Macs (iMac, eMac & iBook) have the same guts as a PC using the AGP slot.
Sorry for the tech babble
I like my eMac but I my laptop is still my fav. |

Its not really the hardware that you see thats impressive, its what its composed of :)
Newer macs use DDR ram, cuz its cheaper and fast; AGP 8X so that video cards are abundant; and IDE/Serial ATA so that hard drives arent expensive like older scsi units.
1ghz front side bus, Altivec, Hyper transport, PCI-X, Firewire 800, built on gigabit ethernet, serial ata, and a bunch of other techinologies really make macitosh hardware stand out..

I realize this is an old post, but I'm bumping it back up because I got my new iMac the other day.
Because of the release of the new Intel Macs, the PowerPC version of the 20" iMac G5 got a price drop. That was good news for me as I am taking graphic design at GMAC. The price a couple months ago was a little over $2000, and now with the price drop and my student discount, the total was a hair over $1600! Not a bad price for a 20" screen, a DVD/CD RW superdrive, 250gig HD, remote, iSight cam and mic and the new Mighty Mouse.
I've been working on a mac for the past year, but only ever a G5 tower or an older G4 tower, so its nice to be able to work at home on all the Adobe programs without having to commute 30mins each way.
Carry on.
