Coilovers - Click HERE for Original Thread

arabian_ryda
hey srburg13 what kind of coiler over are u running and what kind of struts also are those mags 17 inch?

SRBURG13
I don't coilovers, and yes those are 17's, but they have been sold. Usually the coilovers have the "struts" right inside them already.

arabian_ryda
ya but mine are fitting with blue ones that say nissan on the side so im geussing there stock struts. also would u know anyone selling some oem struts that can get me lower to the ground. i hate stock height. i also have 17teens on my car and they look good but better if it was low. thanx for the info man

SRBURG13
Struts will not get you lower to the ground. And especially not OEM ones. The only thing that will get you "lower" is the springs, and or your coilovers and what they are set at.

If you need some aftermarket struts, PM me, and I can get them for you, as I'm thinking about forgetting about the idea of coilovers, and I'm probably going to buy some good struts to go along with thost springs of mine. I've been thinking long and hard about it too.

sil_eighty
common u gots the bling...do cheap out now......struts sux.....
only ones id go with r GAB's....the rest r too soft.....plus GAB's will run you as much dolla....so might as well go with the full setup...

SRBURG13
I don't need coilovers for one main reason. I DON'T NEED TO ADJUST MY HEIGHT. Plus, there are not too many coilovers out there, that fit my budget that will get me any lower than what I am right now. For my application that I want, a good set of struts will do me fine. Sure, coilovers are nice, but for the money I want to spend on them, and the usage that I need out of my suspension, springs and struts do me fine. Mark, why do I need Coilovers??

Quintessence
Hey Aaron,

What kind of deal can you get for Tokico's or KYB struts?

My dad can get 40% off Monroe struts but they'll probably suck compared to either of those.

thanks

I thought everyone spent $2500 on coilovers to be cool. :(

SRBURG13
IF I was to buy coilovers, it would have to be a set that you could adjust the spring rate and the ride height completely separate from each other, otherwise, all it would be is ride height, and sometimes dampening. Either way, I'll be able to adjust dampening, and I'll never sit any lower than I am right now with a reasonably priced set of coilovers.

Well, I only spent about $1000 (CDN) on Eibachs & KYBs, and I think I'm still cool. :p

(joking aside, I wouldn't rule out maybe swapping out the Eibachs for Ground-Control some day, but I see no need for shelling out $$ for full Tein, HKS or JIC setups, for example).

SRBURG13
Inzane, how do you like the KYB's?

I have the same thing, but i paid 700 for Eibach springs and KYB GR2's (do you have the gr2s or the AGX's). Its a good ride but the car didnt lower at all.:(

I have Eibach Pro-Kit springs and KYB AGX adj. shocks (4 way front, 8 way rear). The AGX's are more $ than the GR2s as far as I know. The Eibachs are typically ~ $230 USD for the set and the AGXs are usually ~ $85-95 USD each, so a total at about ~ $600 USD give or take for my setup (not including shipping). [most of the "coilover" setups are at least TWICE that]

Install was free, 'cause I did it myself. :D

Aaron: The KYBs are awesome. I've very happy with my choice. I almost went with Koni Sports (the yellow ones) but found out the rear Koni specified for the Z32 can't be adjusted on the car (what good is that??).

The only disadvantage with the KYBs its a bit tricky getting at the rear adjustment knob sometimes. Particularly when your exhaust is hot. If you ever see me lying on my ass in the middle of the staging lanes with my arm under the car and my face all contorted, that's what I'm doing -- trying to change my shock settings. D'oh!
:)

Nis240: Love that sig!

KYB's r too soft for me on the s13......even on full setting....(ps tatjana's car)
J-rod's GAB's r superior......but they cost as much as doulbe KYB's
go with a good used pair from japan......just make sure they r rebuildable..... meaning seal changes.......
good pair of used should go for 600-1200.....

good luck Aaron:bthumbup:

That's surprising. On the Z32, I never run on the street at full stiff.

Our setups obviously have differences to take into account though.

sil_eighty
it was tein camber plates KYB AGX's with RSR down springs......
front on 4 back on 8..... maybe upgraded sway bars would help....but its not my car anyway so i dont care anymore....
used coilovers is the way to go!
