| anyone here use nitrous on their car? whats your setup? shot size? wet or dry? ...etc |
|

The most power gains come from a wetshot or direct port.
Just hook that thing up and lets go for a rip already. |

i'm no nitrous expert but here's a little info for you guys.
dry is when you spray just nitrous through a single nozzle into your intake tube. extra fuel is provided by a device forcing the stock fuel pressure regulator to rise the fuel pressure.
there is two types of wet setup. first is single nozzle. it works similar to the dry system except the fuel and nitrous is injected through the nozzle with the nitrous so you don't have to depend on the fuel pressure regulator to provide the extra fuel.
second type of wet nitrous is direct port. with direct port there is a nozzle on each intake runner to inject both nitrous and fuel.
single nozzle setup is ok. you can get wet or dry kits. some people question the nitrous or fuel distribution. i don't think it would be an issue until you start running larger than 75 shots.
direct port is the most safe setup to run. you can run a bigger shot than the single nozzle because you don't have to worry about equal nitrous and fuel distribution. but the down fall is its very expensive to setup.
with all that being siad i went with single nozzle dry kit. i guess it comes down to which setup you trust more.
this is my setup so far:
-zex dry kit 55shot
-zex bottle guage
-JG edelbrock purge kit
-a number of fittings from greenline and red L to get the edelbrock purge kit to fit cause jb's told me it would fit and it didn't
things planned for later on
-fuel pressure guage
-electric nitrous guage
-remote bottle opener
-bottle warmer
for the most part everything is installed. i just need to wire the switches. might get bottle filled at jb's later and do some late night test and tuning .
just to get ahead.... no i'm not some f&f wannabe that watched the movie and just decided to get nitrous. yes i get that question a lot. |

| That Phat car did 13.6 on Nitrous. Not bad for a 16sec stock car. |

doesn't the phat car have turbo and nitrous?

I have use NOS dry system 50 shots
used the fuel regulator from the kit,
blanket is veey nice to have as it gives you even pressure throughout the whole bottle. |

No what he has is NOS and an Intercooler. That's it. |

Yeah, an intercooler that is not hooked up. Still a fast car though.
My old car (which is still driving around Edmonton) was a 97 Z24 with a 75 shot of nitrous. It was the ZEX dry kit. No problems at all.
But I have a question for you guys, sorry to butt in on someone elses thread, but where do you guys that have nitrous get your bottles filled? There has to be somewhere cheaper than JB's at 7 bucks a pound. Thanks |

SO what are u driving now then?? ..another Z24?
If u dont mind a bit of smell, go get it filled at your local dentist? THey use the same stuff except without the sulfer content which removes the smell of the gas. Im sure they'd sell it to you for cheap! |

LOL
I thought about that but don't think it'll happen.
I bought a silver 2002 Z24 to replace my black 97. _I kind of like the cars because it is easy to maky a Cavalier stand out because not many are modded. _The old one had nitrous, but I am hopping to put a supercharger on this new one. _If I can't get the cash together by next spring I will just go the easy route and put another bottle in.
Here is a pic of my new one btw:

I'm sure the dentist won't agree to do that.
Doesn't Pro Stock Performance also fills nitrous bottles?

I think Xtreme Machine will fill bottles too, not sure on the price, go there and ask for Vern.
ps. Yeah, I've seen you around |

i've asked around. most places don't sell it for cheaper than $7 per lbs. i do know a place in calgary that fills for $4 per lbs.... hehehe
silver z24 did you have any problems with your zex kit? did you also run just the base kit with no add ons with a 75 shot? |
|
|
| SilverZ24 |
Yeah, just the base Zex kit with a 75 shot. _Started with the 55 jets, but that only lasted about half a bottle before the _bigger ones got put on.
The only problem the car seems to have is blowing exhaust gaskets. _I sold the car to my buddy and last night we just put in another gasket and hopefully this one will hold better. _The car was running good last night and will be at the track this Friday running. _I will also be running my new Z24, but unfortunately it's over a second slower than the old one.
Oh yeah, for safety, I had an MSD Dis2 installed and also and adjustable FPR. _The FPR is always turned up a bit for the track so the car is running a little on the rich side just to be safe.

| i know a guy that runs a zex kit on his civic sir. he told me he blew up the spark plugs and melted the plug wires. don't know what the cause is but he told me to get a FPR too. haven't heard of blown exhaust gaskets so who knows. |
|
|
| SilverZ24 |
Oh yeah, the platinum plugs that came with the car were swapped for some copper ones that were 2 heat ranges cooler.
The blown exhaust gasket problem is mainly because the factory exhaust manifold was ported from 2" to 2 1/4" with a new flex pipe attached to it. It is difficult to find a good gasket that will fit this 'odd' setup. |
