SR20 Tops - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just have a quick question. What's the difference between a black top SR20DET and a red top SR20DET? Is there an acual difference in the engine itself, or is it just the tops that are different? Thanks all.

Not a whole heck of a lot.The blacktop came with a t28 bb turbo and the redtop came with a t25.
redtop vs blacktop

Scroll down a bit and there is a little bit on it.I definately would not shell out the extra cash for a blacktop.

^^ WHat he said. There are s13 redtops/blacktops that are 99.9% identical, except for age(reds are 91-93, blacks are 94-98) and valve cover top(obviously). THen there are the s14/s15 blacktops; usually referred to as "Notch tops" because of the slanted 'notch' at the rear of the valve cover. THe s14/s15 have larger T28 turbos and a cam timing thing similar to vtech( ) Thats about it...

-=MJ=-
S13 Redtops have A high angle in the combustion chamber
S14 and S13 blacktops have an inferior low angle pent roof style

S13 Redtop allows for higher boost before detonation and better flow. I would go for the S13 redtop or the S13 black. The s14 blakc has VVT which does not make alot of difference and if you want to keep it, it is extra wiring on the instal.

PS it is nothing like VTEC

It sounds easier just to turbo the stock KA engine. Are there internals and stuff available close to Edmonton for the KA engine. Like pistons, rods, crankshaft, all that so you can add a turbo kit? What about the turbo kit, who makes/sells turbo kits for the KA? Lastly, how much would that all cost with everything included? (Engine parts, Labour, Turbo kit, etc...)

DeathBy240
RealNissan and NSport both make turbo kits for the 240. Expect them to cost the same as an SR, around $2500 US.
