Importing car from US - but car is already here! Need Broker if possible - Click HERE for Original Thread

TrevorK
Here's the situation, I need a car "imported" from the US. The car is already here in Edmonton, as it was bought off of an American student at the UofA.

Now, I need to get it legalized. And I can't find a firm answer on what I have to do because this situation seems unique (As I'm not bringing it across a border crossing).

I'd love the steps needed to do this. As well, I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO ALL THIS FOR ME.

I tried Import Concern, but they couldn't do it. Again, I'd love to pay someone to do this.

500 bucks and I'll do it ;)

really,
www.riv.ca call them.

its most likely just a form, and you have to get it inspected at a crappy tire to make sure it compliant (also check on the site to make sure its admisable)

all else fails drive down to the border and do it. takes 10 minutes, jsut make sure you still give your 72 hours to Customs.

Ps its a 5.5 hour drive to coutts from here.

I jsut got my SS from the states on friday.

Yeah - that's the backup plan is to drive down to the border and get it done. But I'd hate to spend all that time driving if it's only a couple hours of work here in the city.

TO do it here in Saskatchewan all you have to do is take it to Canadian Tire. They are incharge of doing all federal inspections. I believe it costs like $50 plus the cost of anything you need to change or repair. After, that we have to take them to any SGI accreditted shop to get provincially certified. This costs $100 plus any changes or repairs. Now, you live in Alberta so I dont know how you guys do the provincial inspection so that is up to you though. But phone up your local crappy tire and find out if they do them. That is what SGI told me to do when bringing a car over the border.

Hope this helps you,
Chad

Canadian tire needs the paper work from the RIV befor they will do ANYTHING.
I got that paper when I drove over the boarder, dont know if theres another way, as it didnt concern me to ask.
A broker can always do it, they are 250 bucks. if you need a name of the one I was going to use him me up with a PM.

There are Canada Customs offices in every major city in Canada. You don't need to drive to the American border.

Shipments fly into Edmonton every day from the States. They don't land the plane at the border before proceeding.

Canada Customs handles shipments right here in Edmonton. They can do the necessary paperwork.

I called the people and that's what they said - to go to the airport here.

yup
for a car, US customs is in on it too though.

PS, a broker if you feel the need, will also give advise.

Thanks - because of lack of time I might use a broker.
