Is having one racing seat ghetto? - Click HERE for Original Thread

energie
I just don't feel like spending over $1000. So what do u think?

VerbotenZ34
I guess it depends on personal interpretation of the word 'ghetto' (and/or 'rice') - are you leaving the stock seat on the passenger side? If you took that out, it would be considered a "race" setup, wouldn't it?

Just get a pair of Sparco Sprint or corbeau forza or clubmans if you want to spend under $1000. I was think of also just getting "A" Sparco seat too but i also thought it would look kind of ugly.

ChromeDragon
If it's for racing, who cares man. Don't let other people's thoughts determine whether you do something or not on your car.....unless those thoughts are concerning safety. Personally I would look at a passenger racing seat as being "ghetto" or "rice" if it's not used. If you race without anyone in the passenger seat, why would you need it? It's just there for show. I personally wouldn't waste my money. There will only be 1 Bride seat in my car.

mx73someday
Ya I agree with Chromey, the passenger racing seat is a big waste of money. Who needs any passenger seats at all, just rip em all out, they're just slowing you down.

SplineZ
I only got 2 seats in total.. I wouldnt mind having a ballanced look even if its not really in use for racing..

I dont even really see a problem in having 1 racing seat in a car.. whats' it matter what other people think? as long as you like it :)

James Z

JDC™
i dont think theres anything wrong with it..i was thinking about putting in a sparco evo eventually..but not two.

also, if your worried about cosmetics, the type of passenger seat your car has stock will help determine if you want two or not... (if its a stock bucket seat, than 1 racing seat would do...but if its like a family car seat, then you may want two)

but ya... my $.02

REFLUX
passengers usually range in size and not everyone is going to fit in those snug bucket seats

get yourself something supportive and opt for a reclinable but comfy seat for the passenger :p

SplineZ
hahaha!

atleast i dont have to worry about that.. anybody that large will say "There is no way im fittin in there" even before i open the door ;)

:blue: THATS FUNNY !!!!

Id say go for it. Most shops now actually will give you a deal if you buy the two seats, but really its up to you. Racing seats are a bit uncomfortable at first but they hold you in much tigher than stock. Its really depends on the passenger or if you usually have a passenger. I know my g/f is in my car many times so I would have to think veryard on deciding if I would get one or two. Just my .02

Keith303
IMHO 1 is GHETTO, it wouldnt look right

ChromeDragon
1 full on, non reclining racing bucket, and one comfortable reclining seat on the passenger side. If you go for one of those nice cushy hardly supportive racing seats.....well then what's the point?

Chromey

I think it looks like ass. It looks as if you're some poor ass wanna be racer. Who wants an interior that isn't symetrical?

SRBURG13
Then it also comes down to what kind of seat is in there. If dude has a $1000 Bride seat in there, and there is only one, I think its all good. Cause he's probably using that seat for racing purposes. If there is a rActive seat or some other junk $100 seat, then yeah, you're a poor cheap bastard and didn't do it symetrical.

I think one is alright. Unless you plan on racing with a passenger.

I've seen qutie a few track-only (read: RACER) cars with asymetrical seats

function over fashion, why spend another $1000 on a seat for your passenger when you're the one who needs it the most
unless your passenger is there to help you navigate or needs the same amount of support as you do...there isn't much justification in buying a hardcore race shell for them
unless you're going for a bling look...but since when was racing about bling??? you'd be surprised at how many people race on a very tight budget (read: poor ass)

furthermore....real race cars don't HAVE interiors ;)

Real race cars don't have passenger seats.... except for rally.

Thats what I was gonna say.

JustinL
If you can't fit into my sparco passenger seat then you can't come for a ride ;)

My seats were worn and the mechanical stuff was shot, so I replaced both with sparco sprints. Not the most expensive seat on the market, but good quality and fits ME very nicely. Huge weight reduction on removing 2 8way power seats.

Sure I piss blood from having my kidneys beaten around on our lovely roads, but I like the seats and all my passengers are happy to sit in a tight seat so they aren't sliding aroung in the stock ones.

On another note, I think this rice thing might be going too far... either that or my 951 is becoming rice now that I have a pair of sparcos, a front splitter, and 17" wheels. My point is that improving the looks of your car is not neccesarily rice.

Alright thanks for your opinions:bthumbup:

HJr
1 is ghetto. Unless you take all the seats out and just have 1 for the driver, then its ghetto. It would be better to get a quality one for the driver then say a sparco sprint for the pass if your worried about cost. or 2 less costly seats, but definetly 2. But that of course, like every other post, i just an opinion.
All im saying is my first impression of your car if i saw it with 1 seat would be that it was ghetto.

How the hell is it ghetto? The point of a RACING SEAT is to hold YOU, the DRIVER into YOUR car while YOU are RACING it. Not to drive around on the street like a stunna, showing off your nice beautiful racing seats.

They're not trying hard enough. :D Or perhaps they put in the seat for training/ride-along purposes.

EDIT: I suppose there could also be some showroom stock classes that also require 2 seats in the car.

nissanz32
I don't see how having only one REAL racing seat is ghetto. Unless you are rallying I don't see the need for a second race seat.

arabian_ryda
its all about personal prefrence. i personally would not buy one because im sure whoever i take along with me is gonna bug the hell outme why i dont have a racing seat for them.

Ha that reminds me of a 914 I saw a while back with a huge cross brace that had to go between the passengers legs.

SRBURG13
Do you know whats even more ghetto, and shows how dirt poor someone is?

When you have 2 different racing seats, because you couldn't afford 2 of the same.

Either buy 2 of the same, ONLY 1, or NONE!!!

that's right. it would look butt ugly with one nice seat, and one cheap seat for the passenger. i rather just get only one for myself, and keep the other one stock.

ChromeDragon
Well I made a stupid impulse buy on those racing seats back in the fall and I regret it now, but I'm going to bolt one to the top of an office chair base. Get some good use out of it!

That is a great idea. Corbeau i beleive sells office chairs :D

littledan
i might end up rocking 1 racing seat... i don't think it's ricey at all. and really i don't give a fuck what other people think.

Don't hold back on the feelings now.

Ghetto is stripped interior, no tires, no rims, no sound system, no engine, nothing.

I'm for functional. 1 racing seat, if there's passenger belt up real tight and start praying because if you're riding with me one of my intentions is to scare the crap out of you.

ChromeDragon
Actually isn't ghetto all your wardrobe in the trunk, cooking hot dogs on the exhaust manifold, living out of your car? Maybe I'm a little lost here?:dunno:

I only have 1 racing seat, jus a fibreglass shell. I don't think its ghetto at all. The passenger seat is still decent condition, no point in wasting money.

ehrgeiz
Aesthetically I find one racing seat to look to very nice, provided they are both of the same color scheme. heh it kinda shows you mean business.

I purchased one Sparco Evo 2 because I found I was using the dead pedal to support myself entirely too much at Race City. I'm not going to dump another grand on a passenger seat so it can "look" symmetrical. I'd rather put that money into something that will actually make me faster. Function over all else.

but i am a poor ass racer. well, maybe just poor.

when i have enough money for even 1 racing seat, thats all i will buy. it would be nice to have 2, but im poor.

GeoffDonk
if you dont race racing seats are rice.

TofuBoi
i've seen some blue over black racing seats on beyond for sale, 550obo for a pair....

arabian_ryda
if i had the money i would buy too and i explained why in a previous post but i dont have the money so i would probably stick with the stock seat because for one it saves money and two its give the car the sleeper kind of look which im sure most of you want.

up2speed
interested in a pair of brand new Sparco Sprint (blue). lemme know.

u can get used bride buckets for a bit more..

DomesticDrifter
One racing seat isn't ghetto, do what you can to your car little bit by little bit, everyone knows that we arn't all made of money and if you can only aford 1 seat at a time go for it. if we all had unlimited funds our streets would be full full of 900hp Supras. just get one seat at a time if thats what it takes! good luck with your jetta

ps check ebay, you might get lucky and get them for cheap!

energie
Thanks for your opinions guys...just to let u know i just ordered 2 racing seats:bthumbup:

JustinL
Whatcha get?

energie
I got a pair of FK sport seats. FK is a fairly new company which most of their products are for VW's. I wanted something adjustable, Sparco and Momo are too expensive for me, but i didn't want APC or Ractive, anyways

GeoffDonk
nice looking chair. Its definatly racing but it also looks comfortable, unlike the hardcore barebones carbonfiber pos you can burn cash on. good choice.

2003specv
Nice seats Ener, how much $ and where did you get them?

energie
Concept1 in Calgary has them, and AMI Motorsports in Ontario has them. the regular price for them are $500 each, but AMI had a special on them for like $300 each.
