My thoughts on the car show. - Click HERE for Original Thread

2003specv
Here are my thoughts on the car show. Feel free to add yours.

1. Lamborghini Diablo's look wicked with super deep dish 20s

2. The Ferrari 360 Modena is the sexiest bitch I have ever seen.

3. SRT-4 seats have nice side bolsters for the back, but the bottom bolsters squeeze my thighs hardcore. Not comfy for the long haul. And the dash/console is horribly laid out. My Sentra is about the same dimensions and the interior seems huge compared to the SRT-4.

4. If I had a Maybach it would be totaly pimp, except all my friends would write obsene things in the super soft suede door coverings. (You know how you can run your finger over suede and it leaves a mark?)

5. The Porsche Cayenne is nothing special. The interior is blah. And the Turbo looks retarded with the big rims, low-profile tires, and two feet of wheel-to-fender gap.

6. I am in love with the Infiniti FX45. I hate SUVs, but I would buy one in a heartbeat if I had a spare 80k.

7. The Mazda RX-8 feels like a coffin inside. WAY TOO small. (Although I am 6'3")

8. The new Maxima has a huge backseat and decent headroom for tall people.

9. The Cadillac SRX has a wicked sunroof that makes you want to ride in the back seat... so you can stand straight up! That's sooo wicked.

10. Last one, I still hate the new Spec V front end. It looks like ass and it doesn't differentiate from the crappy lower models. Makes me glad I got an 03. :D

TofuBoi
I agreee...... the new sentra front is ugly............. 03's were nicer

Make sure to check out the 20's on the Diablo. And I'm not even a fan of bling bling dubs. Also look out for the Ford GT40, not to be confused with the new GT. I don't know if you're into sport sedans but the Caddy CTS-V is pretty hot.

F355 Berlinetta

If only I had a spare $149,000 lying around.

Other than that......the new Chrysler 300 impressed me, that's a big sexy rwd car man!!

Since I ended up working the show most of the day I didn't get to take a real good look at the vehicles, but I'll be back again to enjoy the show. heh

Chromey

P.S. I think I gave alot of the older muscle car guys an angle to look at these cars and give them some of the respect they deserve.

P.P.S. Dumbest comment heard that day(although funny) by some guy who looked like he had just climbed out from under a truck up on the rigs, "I'm gonna get a carbon fiber hood for my Charger." This was followed by snickers and giggles from him and his buddies. Ignorance is bliss.:dunno:

shorti
the one thing i noticed about this years show is that there is less rice than last yers show (thanks to EZ Motorsports) but don't get me wrong there still are pretty ugly riced out cars there.
it's sad to see there's still a market for morons out there

energie
I liked the Audi RS6, and the TT with the new 3.2L engine:p

SplineZ
I got nearly 200 pics.. ill post them eventually :)

that 3.2TT was rad.. defintatly hot..

The Dodge Razor. Tucked inconspicuously at the back of Dodge's section.

GeoffDonk
nice. the razor is a sweet looking car. Do they have the C6 vette or Pontiac Solstice? What about the caddy 16?

Gimme the SCT mustang! Actually, for me, I hated a lot of cars there. Dont get me wrong, many of them looked nice, quite a few of them had some serious numbers and even more I just wanted to jump in and take that nice car for a test drive. My beef is the design of the cars. In EVERY single manual I tried to get into, I could NOT use the clutch unless my left knee was rubbing tightly with the steering wheel. Even my beloved mazda 6 was like this. I tried everything, moving the seat all the way back and the steering forward, but to no avail. Damnit. I know being 6'4" isnt the norm for most people, but my god, I may be tall, but Im not that tall! Grrr. the sad thing was that I had to revert to the auto's like my GA to feel comfortable. I wanna drive a stick!

i know just the type. i bet it was some guy at my school. he owns 3 chargers and my stock 240 could beat all but one. I'm talkin about a road course and not draggin. he says all imports are shit and he has spent over 35 g's into his cars and he is not that fast. I have respect for domestic and imports but bashin one is just not cool.

98 teg
my thoughts exactly bashing not cool, as for being 6"4 sucks to be you dude, going to the car show today

ChromeDragon
LoL, I'm 6'5" myself man and I feel your pain. My head was tilted so far to the side when I sat in a Tiburon that my ear literally was touching the roof. I've found 80's Japanese cars suprisingly accomodating. I've had an '84 Mazda 626 and my current '86 Corolla GTS and both are fairly comfortable to drive with half decent head and legroom. I can't wait to see how much space I have in the Skyline....it is a much bigger car after all.

Chrysler is hoping to sell these in Canada in the near future for under $20,000. Canadian!

colossus
Suprisingly, overall I found the interior/exterior of the Tiburon much more exciting than the bland Eclipse, Celica interiors. The RSX had a nice interior, while the EcL and Cel only had nice exteriors. For the MSRP a consumer doesn't really get much these days.

blinkme_210
When I was taking pics of the STI, some older (mid 30's) guy's wife wanted to sit in it. But the husband told her "Subaru's suck, they're made in Austrailia. I'm going to see Porsche."

I guess you can't blame them, the commercials do imply that they're made in Austrailia. Especially with Paul Hogan as a spokesperson for Subaru, and a model name like Outback, it only adds to the assumption that it is from Austrailia.

not going to happen. I'd guess closer to $30K

Anonymoose
Actually it'll probably be just a shade under $23,000. These cars will most likely come completely optionless and are meant to be a driver's car and a driver's car alone.

stealth
funny thing i heard was these 2 guys in about 16-18

"right now its all about the imports, i dont know why but since the fast and the furious, me im a truck person trucks are better, i dont know why people like imports so much" this is while lookin at RDS_Celicas car.

Mekanik22
Some people at the car shows are totally clueless. For one, my freind and I wanted to check out some steering wheels but we couldn't because two stupid people had to stand there and feel the chrome one a honda engine on a stand. They stood there for a good 5 minutes talking about nothing. "Wow, this chrome is TIGHT", "Yo, this engine had 2 cams shafts!". WHO CARES! Then we are looking at the Eclipse on the red jack stands and some guy walks by and his like "Damn, look at this Lancer!". I couldn't help myself but to laugh after he finished looking at the back and still called it a lancer. People like that just take up space on the walking area. :drama:

On a positive note, I'm really liking RDS_Celica's MR2. It's come a long way since I last saw it. Everything is looking damn fine! Just an opinion, those leather seats have to go, they have like tiny rips and shit in them, it looks worn out. Two Sparcos or something would really look hella fine!

BlackBilly
So where was the G6? The Cobalt? The new Vette? The best they could do was a warmed-over Bonneville???? Until the manufacturers start treating Edmonton like a real car show instead of bunch of new car dealers sharing space for a few days, they've taken my last ten bucks. What a waste of time and money. Biggest GM joke: Impala SS for the same price as an Acura TL. Oh my gawd.

HaULiN_aZz
 Mustang mach1 and Mustang Boss

SplineZ
There was no production ford GT.. apparently it got "Intercepted" for an american car show!

That truely pisses me off..

GM had a few concepts there.. i would have liked to have seen a C6 tho

Hear hear, I agree. It's hardly a car show, more like a big sales pitch. Where are the cutting edge cars? I was really hoping to see the new Mustang. Where were all the models and bikini girls? All no cars, no glamour?

They're claiming $14,500 USD. So it should be cheaper than an SRT4 (Which is probably their target) which stickers here at $27,xxx

Curtass
What was up with that fugly teal cavalier in the V8less booth? That thing had some major styling issues. Of all the sweet-ass cars that are in this club, is that the best V8less could round up for a huge show like that?

2003specv
To each his own on the teal Cav, but I would have rather seen the chopped roof Z24. I forget his user name. That car is wicked!

Neo-Blue99GASE
Hehe dont get me started on the G6. Im am one who really hates how they cut up the grand am to make that car. As for what you said about room ChromeDragon, I totally know how you feel. When I was getting my license and I was just over 6'2", I had to drive a bloody civic for driver training. Haha, it must have been hilarious to see some tall guy have to have his head stuck at an angle so his head could stick out through the sunroof. It was such a pain to drive that car. But yea. I was totally dissappointed in the Mazda 6. Its the same size as my car and yet I still could not use the manual as the clutch position was just too far to the right.

2003specv
Give me a break. I'm 6'2" and I fit no problems in any Civic. And no, I don't drive like the seat is broken.

where were they.
I met the guys last year and got a sweet spoon hoodie!!!
They seemed like super nice guys.

MrMiyagi
Anybody like the SmartCar at the Mercedes section? The line was too long, and I wasnt' abe to ask the guy if it was coming to Canada. Anybody know if it's coming?

It was kind of neat with the diesel engine in the back. You wouldn't want to put a set of skis in there though.

hearse
haha I heard someone mention that cavalier. It was a decent looking car, but it reminded me of (for any of you who have ever played it) that "rides version 2.0" flash game on the internet. It was like "pick your rims" "pick your spoiler" and I swear the graphics were straight out of that game.

mitsuman
My impression of the show was soso... I've been going since I moved to Edmonton, and this year was not special at all. The custom side of things seems to be getting smaller and smaller every year. Maybe everyone is saving it for Powerama.

Otherwise, it’s always nice to see the F40. I was disappointed to find out that the GT40 was actually a replica. The Pantera and other exotics were nice to see as well.

From the import side... there was not much there and nothing out of the ordinary with the exception of Eric’s paint job. The quality of the handiwork continues to impress me. The EPS Tiburon looked sleek, and is a great idea. I support that 100%. Maybe we will get a lot more of the import people to come out and race at the tack. As a few of us know, last year had a pathetic turn out at the races. In the end, it was nice to see some familiar faces.

As far as the rest of the show is concerned, I've got to say that I love that SMART car. I think that it’s awesome for the city, economical, fits it tight places, definitely for the childless family! IMO, the biggest waste of money was the H2. I don’t understand why people would spend that kind of cash for a glorified truck/SUV. The Willis 2 concept is just another example of discrimination against tall people! Lol!! What are they thinking??? Anyways, apart from the few other concepts, everything else is available for free viewing at your local dealerships.

ManHunter
Thanks for the comment. :)

About that smart car, it looked cool, but WTF was with the leaves wallpaper all over it!?!

Yeah no shit, what a useless vehicle. I found it particularily hilarious when I was checking out its specs and under the fuel economy part it just said "N/A" hahaha, wonder why they don't list that???

Same here, I fit fine in my civic and I'm 6'2" as well. I found that in most cars they had at the show I had less space than my civic, wrx and srt-4 for example. My knees were against the dash.

I am not a fan of yankie cars (minus the viper cause that is gorgeous) but that damn Mustang Mach1 is the most gorgeous car i have seen in a while...some guy on my street bought one and that is when i actually noticed it!

But the tightest car at the auto show this year was the Ferrari F40 in the basment that had all the carbon fiber accents. The rear wing 'middle part' was all carbon fiber, that is gorgeous. you have to be one rich/lucky guy to be doin that to your F40! but props to whoever he is!

The F40 belongs to a dealership called ZR. It can be yours for only $799, 000

ChromeDragon
I'd take the 355 for $149,000 instead.

That spoiler on the F40 looked very similar to the double stacks you see all these fools with on their 240sx' and Civics. We were contemplating asking how much it ran, waiting for the huge number and then telling them they could have picked the exact same piece up for $149.95 at a couple of the booths on the other side of the hall.....but alas we didn't. There was also a running bet to try and get someone to throw a slush at the F40....I think the pot was set at $300....but nobody would do it.

The chopped Z24 belongs to my buddy Dave. It was not at the show because nothing has been done to it since the September SCC. He has been working in BC and his car was in my garage for awhile and now is in storage. The plan is to do some work to it this spring and have it out at the next SCC.

I dont see how you guys do it, Honestly, my ride in that 02 civic was absolute hell for my neck. I must seat higher that you guys.

Oh it wasn't about hate, it was about the ZR guys spazzing at anyone that came within 5 feet of a vehicle with a drink in their hand.
