just had a skin fold test done yesterday. this was my second test ever. first one was done in november where i came in at 7.6%. i scheduled an under water test at the u of a for friday aug 16th but i thought i'd also get another skin fold test done for comparison. i was aiming for 5% or so but i did even better. test results showed 2.8% body fat. :D i hope it's close to being accurate... but i guess we'll find out on friday. after that i'm heading for some ice cream!! :P
next goal... 20% body fat! :D at least for the winter anyway. i'm thinking of trying the northern alberta body building competition in the summer of 2003. |

| Ummmm, isn't that dangerous being that low in fat???? |
|
|
| CYA |
| it's not exactly healthy but i'm not going to die either. to get 2.8% body fat (if that test is accurate) isn't simply just cutting back on food. cause doing that would only drop overall weight. to actually lower a person's body fat level to this degree takes a bit of education. and i'm comfortable enough to take it to this level. so for me... i don't think it's dangerous. :) |

Congrats amn, based on your photto you should be damn cut now.
What kind of diet was that? A low carb/long cardio? Any 'roids? :D

thanks. yup the diet was low carb. on average 100-110grams per day. with about half of it being breakfast. cardio was 6 days a week for 1 hour. near the end i changed it to 2 cardio sessions per day at about 45 mins to 1 hour each session.
and no 'roids... i've been training for 8-9 yrs now and have never used any of that before. i like being able to say it's all natural and i'll keep it that way. |

| No you are very UNNATURAL Who the hell goes to Vegas w/ the boys and doesn't even live it up a lil. Freaking guy even brought his shakes and protein bars EVERYWHERE. You're just not right my friend :P :P |

damnnnnnn.....thats crazy, dude......
Whats that low fat % beneficial for? |
|
|
| Loose |
What's it good for? Lookin' good.
I thought body builders only got down to like 5% in competition. How can you hit 3??
Please educate us fitness peons.
What's your weight at now? |

| CYA |
haha... thought maybe you forgot about the vegas thing. i have this picture of us walking down the strip and i laugh everytime i see it. why? cause i've got my bag of food slung over my shoulder. and where were we going? out for breakfast. haha. :P
the low body fat isn't good for anything. just pride in myself... being able to say i can be lean if i choose to. normally i am over 200lbs... last summer peaked at 215lbs. right now i'm 175lbs.
body builders do hit less than 3% for shows. and bascially that's the whole reason why i am for the first time in 8-9 yrs of training actually thinking about doing one competition. cause after this year it's all going downhill. :( gotta start taking night classes and i won't be able to train like i do now. i'd hate to see myself throwing years of work down the drain. even if i don't place top in the class... i'd be happy just to be able to say i stood on stage. |

| When's your first contest Sam? |

| CYA |
| the show i'm considering is the norther alberta competition... that isn't held until some time around june 2003. i have to wait and see how the bulking goes over the winter. that'll be fun. :) definately much better than having to watch what i eat so much. |
|
|
| test |
So you basically eat enough to get proper workouts in the winter, thne when summer comes take off all the fat, in hopes that you have gotten bigger (muscle wise) during winter?
I guess that makes sense because at 2.8% body fat you'll be freezing your ass off! |
|
|
| CYA |
| nope... i don't normally do this. this is only my second attempt at losing body fat. i really don't feel the urge to be lean. i do like how it looks in certain respects but it's too much hassle to do it. i like being bulky instead. so after the next summer i'll just workout and eat whatever i want. lol. |

LOL I still haven't seen those Vegas pictures. That was fun though. Bastard wouldn't even trust me to get him an OJ at the bar. :P
Nah Sammy you should be proud of yourself though. Not many people could handle that kind of discipline. Shit I just got fat again. I think I'm at about 250 right now. GROSS!!! Trying to lift lighter (mainly b/c I hurt my rotator cuff) and do more cardio. We'll see where that leads I guess.

How accurate do you find the calipers that pinch? I have a plastic one.
BTW - how many calories are you gettting and whats your ratio of fat/carbs/protien |
|
|
| CYA |
the calipers are only supposed to be accurate for the "average" human. any person that is low or high in body fat won't get an accurate measurement.
as for calories... lol. i haven't been counting. i'm just enjoying my food. right now i don't really care what i consume as long as i get lots of meat and protein. i have been eating about 1-2 liters of ice cream a week. hahaha.   |

| i need that kind of discipline. but i'd be careful...don't go overboard. |

an clinical set of skin fold calipers can cost upwards of $500US or more. Stuff ain't cheap. As for the ones u buy at the store, um......yah....u get what u pay for. Error on those is so high, it's not even worth mentioning.
Skin folds are the easiest to complete, but also the easiest to muck up. Lowest error that can be obtained is like 5% plus or minus. U gotta be certified to take reliable measurements. It isn't as easy as u think it is, there is a standardized way of doing this.
Gimme until end of next semester, and i'll be CFC certified, as well as PFLC and CSCS. So i can take skinfolds, physical assessments and also plan programs.
