Does anyone know what happened at the University today, namely in Cameron Library? I went in there to do some photo-coping, but it was closed off and there was blood everywhere; as well as a large abundance of cops.

Hmmmm, at a university no less. You don't expect that kind of stuff from educated ( or ppl pursuing an education ) people.
Was it a race "thing" by any chance? |
|
|

| it occurred between people of the same race |

| you have to understand that many of the bizzare occurances on campus are committed by non students. the LRT is able to transport people to 'the end of the line' where they spread out like cancer, milling around and causing mayhem. campus crime beat is always an entertaining yet headshaking read. |

hopefully the victim knows who they are... |

True, but not all victims cooperate with the police because they think if they snitch and it leads to an arrest, they'll just get out and successfully kill him... |
|
|
| REFLUX |
the victim being killed successfully isn't dependent on the perpetrators being arrested though ;)
they can still have another go at him |

My friend had blood splashed on him while he was studying in cameron. It said on the news that the suspects got away. Pretty unexpected for campus. There might be a long campus crime beat on thursday.
I will never study again, because i might get stabbed...

I don't see why that would make any difference? :dunno: I don't understand the idea that "educated" people are somehow of higher status than other people.

I think the logic that is generally followed is that: most criminals are uneducated, therefore if you are educated you won't be a criminal. Obviously not 100% true, but I'll bet if you did a study you'd find a higher percentage of uneducated people are criminals (violent crimes, theft) than people with degrees. Maybe my bias is showing through, but that's the way I see it.
I generally feel less like I'm going to get stabbed walking the campus at night than I do in north downtown anytime.

Well, right or wrong, there are different levels of status in our society. Educated ppl usually have better jobs, better income, better standard of living. In that sense, they have a higher status in society.
But that's kind of off topic. When I stated I don't expect that kind of stuff from educated people, I meant that kind of violence in a place of higher learning.
Ignorance breeds violence, educated people, IMO, usually use different means to resolve confrontations. Like "thinking" thier way of out problems.
But maybe I live in an ideal world. |

Yeah, they embezzle from you until you beg for mercy. :)
As far as campus being a safe place, that's probably true for the guys. Not so much for the women. There's a reason they have that safe walk program. |

so so true
educated people commit as many crimes as noneducated people, but different types of crimes (commercial/white collar crime vs street crime)
and I've heard quite a few stories about the sexual harassment/assault/rape that takes place on campus....scary stuff |

I was studying there at the time it happened. There was quite a bit of blood too, I noticed that the whole thing was taken care of in a rather sloopy way.
As for who commits crimes, low-brow crimes to the lesser educated or impoverished people, in terms of frequency, but more educated and wealthier or people of status commit equally brutal crimes (murders or things of that nature) |

That's what I'm talking about, things like that don't neccesarily make you a better person, which is the way I judge somebodys status. (what they do for the community, how they help others.. etc.) Many others on the other hand do judge somebodys status in society by how rich they are or how good of a job they have, as if that makes them a better person than some "poor" guy.

Yes, the man in my avatar is a perfect example of thinking your way out of a problem rathen than using violence, haha:rolleyes:
Kinda getting off topic though, sorry about that. |
