So for the first time since I was 17 I'm actually getting money back from our scabby government. It's a good one too :D
I'm planning on getting a queen size pillowtop bed, and some Koni yellows and Eibach Prokit springs for my car.
Anybody else getting some car mod money from "the man"? |

I haven't even done mine yet....
I think I'll get some money back since I tossed in quite a bit into RRSPs this year.
My only problem is I didn't take into account my pension at work, so I've overcontributed. I know I'll pay a fine for that.... |

There is no such thing as paying a fine. You are allowed to over contribute a bit, you just won't get to take the deduction until next year. |

| Just had my taxes done and I just about crapped.......I took it to the same place as last year and it was $65 to get it done....this year it was $96. I should have asked before I had them do it but I never expected it to go up that much.....I think next year I'm gonna get the tax software and do mine and my gf's. Ours are pretty straight forward....nothing fancy about them. |

I know you're allowed 2000 over as a one-time thing, but I've already used that (Thanks to the advice of a financial planner)...
It just doesn't make sense - because then I should overcontribute if there's no penalty so my money grows tax free... |

the max u can be over at any time is $2000....if u go over that amount then the entire amount (incl. the $2000) will be fined 1% per month from inception....
....just wrote the CGA tax mid-term :p |

So how does that affect me if I contributed say $2000 over in July?
And does the fine stop next year or.....? |
|

I didn't know you had already over contributed in a prior year. You can just withdraw some of your RRSP's, and be more carefull next year.
Congrats by the way on keeping it that topped up. I used to have mine topped up, but then I bought a house 3 years ago and it has been a lot harder since then. Now I'm building a new house so it is only getting harder. :(
Shaun, good program, I cheat and use it myself. ;) |

your total over-contributions can't exceed $2000 and that includes prior years contributions over and above your allowable amount....
so if your already using your top up amount of $2000 u cant contribute anymore unless u want to get fined.
Mind you, i dont know if you have any unused RRSP deduction room from prior years? That'd make a difference in your contributions for this comming year... |

I've already contributed 2000 over before.
But in 2003 I switched jobs and I have a pension plan at work, which I assume will count as an RRSP contribution?
Which I didn't count on, so I'll be another 2000 over....Am I able to just withdraw 2000? Or do I pay a one time fine? Or...? |

How do you live on that low of an income?
On topic, I plan on paying more of my new house off. |

| Well I bought my appliances on Saturday. $6400 gone. My tax return partially went to the 500 deposit I needed (5 months before I move into the new house and I need the rest of the money) and with the rest I got $1000US for spending money when I go to Vegas next month. :D |
