negotiating prices for used car? - Click HERE for Original Thread

SaabKraft
just wondering some basic etiquette on negotiating prices on a used car, sold by owner.

is offering 4400 US from an asking price of 6000 US kind of rude? going on one photo, the mileage and a description of used parts and condition by the owner.

i'd also have to fly down to get it.

it's been up for a while without selling, think a 1600 less offer would be an insult?

depend show desperate he is to get rid of it.. if its not acceptable he'll let ya know.. work up from there..

Nope, you should always ask around 25% less especially if its an older car, then they wil leb like well how about 5200. and you say how about 5, then its a done deal! Just go with it, doesnt hurt to ask if your serious.

here's the car in question

# 1988 Saab 900 SPG Turbo (Posted 3/16/04)
Color: Black Trans: Manual Mileage: 182,000 Price: $6000 obo
This 1988 Black SPG must go due to college costs. There were only about 400 of this model and color made, so this is one of the rarer ones. Most of the life limited items on this car have been replaced (timing chain, headgasket, steering rack, cat. converter, etc.), e-mail me for the list. The A/C blows cold and I have also put in clear turn signals up front, and smoked side signals. I also have a couple extras like original turn signals, a spare APC, brake pads, and service manual for her. This car has plenty of life left in her, so give her a good home.

practically my dream car... in such good shape, if the photo is to be trusted. wow. aftermarket boost gauge, A/F gague and possibly a pioneer head unit.

it being in maryland is a bitch though v_v

Ask him to get more pics and an inspection at least.

SaabKraft
i've asked for more pics but as of now he's busy. i won't seriously commit untill i see a few more things, especially the interior, and some more body shots.

182000 miles  thats like almost 300,000 km

hope you got money for a rebiuld, cause it aint going to last forever. not to mention all the other parts that will need replacing real soon, unless they have been done recently.

I've bought 2 cars sight unseen. get it inspected befor you send any money, and if you can send part ot hold it and hten bring hte rest with you.

make sure you have everything and have done everything needed for crossing hte boarder.

asking 4400 is worth a try, you can always go from there. worse that can happen is hes going to say.
