More mobile radar - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well this sucks... It's not even speeders but idiot drivers that are causing accidents.
Can anyone provide clarification on this, it's not mobile photo radar is it? It's mobile radar which means cops will be pulling more people over, right?. i.e. not really a cash cow like photo radar.

Slow down and no worries, forewarned is forearmed.

only 33 traffic deaths last year? I mean that blows but I seriously thought it was a lot more.

MeXx
my detector picks them up i really dont mind

So now cops don't have to get outta the car except when they pull people over...

Couple more years and they'll incorporate the technology so they don't have to leave Tim Hortons..... they'll be able to patrol via remote control cruiser, with mobile radar, and pre-recorded scoldings for whatever you might of done. ;)

As Charles said, if you don't speed, you don't have to worry. I've changed my driving habits of late(well the last 48 hours in the new truck I've put my foot down a couple times, but I still watch my speed), and I'm no longer so worried about tickets. I've been leaving earlier for school/work/play and I feel much better about my daily commutes.

Matt-new truck, what did you get?

Another thought any time you see a car approaching you from the same or different direction check your speed to see if you are within the limits and you shouldn't have a problem.

Think of the money we'll save on gas as well.

Bigger picture do this North America wide and watch the price of gas fall due to lower consumption, stick it to Opec for sure then, throw in Hybrids from the major car manufacturers and no more fear from the high prices of gasoline what an effect on the economy that would have.

To take it even further maybe our somewhat corrupt government which is reaping huge surpluses due to high gas prices might have to return to fiscal responsibility.

that's retarded, although the've been implementing that for awhile cuz that's how i got pulled over on the whitemud..i think it's dumb, unless they start being a little more forgiving and let people know about the dangers of speed, and not giving a ticket but getting a ticket at our age will almost ruin driving forever, and unless thats their intention they should back off:mad:

Are you for real, well I'll take what you posted as a joke. Otherwise this has to be the most retarded response I have had heard so far.

You they've been implementing that for awhile cuz that's how I got pulled over on the whitemud.

Let people know about the dangers of speed. Do you ever get out of the house turn on the tv, read a newspaper, look at a billboard, surf the net.

Getting a ticket our age will almost ruin driving forever and unless thats their intention they should back off.

Back off from doing their job, oh good one, dont arrest lawbreakers turn a blind eye to criminal action is that what you meant.

I would think someone with a boxster s and a 300zx would have more sense than you just displayed. Police yourself and they wont have to. If you can afford the cars you can afford the insurance and if you cant afford a ticket and the resultant hit on your insurance dont speed.

I could imagine that argument with an office who pulled you over for speeding and if he didnt laugh in your face you would definitely be a target for discussion around the cooler.

Well thanks for the laugh.

i'm not saying that they shouldn't do their job, and i agree that if you're going to speed then pay the consequences.
All i'm saying is that in the last 2 months they are really tightening down hard, and yes maybe i'm just pissed off that i got a ticket, but with the way insurance rates are in this province i just think they should relax a bit and be a little more leniant.

When i went down to the states, we were driving down the highway at about 95MPH which is about 150 km/h . People were passing me as i was standing still...including cops...soo then i start given'r too and i was goin at about 115 MPH which is about 185 km/h and the cops pulled up beside me , and waved their hand and motioned for me to slow down...THAT"S IT..soo what did i do..slowed down they didnt give me a ticket even though they could have

and that's all i'm trying to say, is that the cops should be more leniant instead of looking for every little thing they can ding you with and then pile it all on..especially with the insurance dipsh*t companies in this province

K...this is what troubles me!!

33 Traffic 'related deaths' !!! RELATED!!!

And a HUGE campain to STOP speeders!!

OK...how many GANG land MURDERS??? People being shot in their own houses, WHILE SLEEPING, fire bombs, etc....

Where is the ANTI- gang, campain??

In a city of a MILLION...I am more worried about being others things than being hit by a speeder...yes people need to shape up on the roads...but come on there is MORE to deal with and make public....

Anyone who has travelled to any other country in the world KNOWS that driving in Canada IS A HELL of a lot more relaxed and slowed than any country I've been too. (USA, Mexico, Greece, UK, INDIA (scary)....trust me Canada is SAFE)

Alberta as a whole only recently eclipsed the million person mark,...
I agree that the police are being reactive to the whole speed issue, and I do agree that there should be a greater Anti-Gang effort. I'm much more concerned about interrupting a drug deal late at night than I am about being a 'traffic related fatality' in the middle of the day.

33 TRAFFIC related deaths. That doesn't necessarily mean SPEEDING related, I bet most of those are due to drinking and driving.

This is awesome, now the cops will be able to put more focus on the sober guy going 20 over the limit and ignore the drunk behind him, wicked!!!:dunno:

1 million people in alberta? puhlease, its way more than that :p

Your radar detecters will detect this, its good old radar... whoever its not on all the time, and in all likelyhood it will be too late when you hear your detecter; unless they're pulling over someone else..

Ya know Im not FOR this.. and I knew something like this would happen :) it is unfortunate that they dont spend more time in other areas that need it..

Heres a tip tho... if your going to speed, dont speed around crown vics, caprices, or white lumina's :) or near offramps on freeways.

i agree. Whens the last time you saw a checkstop??

personally it was like last sept when they pretty much shut down St. Trail South.

Granted their are alot of ppl who are opening up their cars this time of year (watched 3 preludes racing down yellowhead last night). The moneys probably better spent funding checkstops than mobile radar..........

Im not TOO concerned about that guy weaving through traffic thats doing +20km. Im more concerned about the guy thats weaving through traffic thats HAD 20

Different lobbying groups have differnt amounts of power. MADD vs. Speed Kills! It is easier to spot a speeder than a drunk. The cops go with the odds. So it is smarter/safer/cheaper to drive a little drunk at the speed limit than speed sober. Just like the cops, you go with the odds.

Actually, Good Friday night they had a checkstop outside of West Ed that I got pulled over for.

dogstar
um, so, its illegal to speed, dont get caught.

also, you want to know what cars the boxes are in?

cars i know of:
dark blue 2003 intrepid
white 2003 intrepid
dark (blue??) impala
grey crown vic ghost
white crown vic decals, no roof lights.

those are the police vehicles ive seen pulling people over lately, both intrepids i got a pretty good look at while driving on friday night, spoke the the boys in the blue one, asked if "that lil box is yer new radar?" and they gave me dirty looks before rolling up the window.

ive reduced my speed drastically lately, just cause i cant afford to speed, if you cant afford to speed, i suggest doing the same.
speed enforcement as a method of traffic safety is bullshit, but its how our wonderful city has chosen to reduce traffic fatalities.
unfortunate for those of us who drive nice sporty cars, cause were gonna pay for it with increased police attention and vigilance.

also, i saw a huge checkstop on university ave and about 115th street on thursday night.

But that's exactly my point, it's a cash cow for the police, it's not to make the roads safer, because "it's easier to spot a speeder than a drunk". They are trying to pass this off as a tool for making our streets a safer place to drive, and yes it will do that, but if they want our streets to be really safe then why not allocate that budget towards drinking and driving, which im sure causes more fatalities than speeding. And the answer is, "you go with the odds", chances are it's easier to find a speeder to fatten the police fund rather than a drunk to make the roads that much safer.

We could all just stop speeding, but I'm just pissed when they try to convince the public that it's to increase the safety on the roads. And Bush invaded Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction and NOT oil. We get fed bullshit at every level.

MightyMidget
if you want the police to have more money for EVERYTHING then BITCH at city counsel because they are the ones screwing the police year after year!!!!

and this will get people off the roads....it is much easier to stop speeders/dangerous drivers than drunk drivers. There are also far more speeders and dangerous drivers than there are imparied drivers!!! I bet if the stupid legal system would stop letting these dumb fuck impaired drivers off then more police officers would be laying charges....

Its gotta be pretty frustrating for the police and law abiding citizens to have criminals treated so lightly. Man you kill someone these days and you are out in a couple of years, glad to see life means something. Bleeding hearts oh the poor criminal, what about the victims. Makes you want to take the law into your own hands.

How about we put all the hardcore criminals in a stadium, give them all guns, weapons etc. The last person alive gets to go free but there can be only one.

How does this system work exactly?

How can it determine more than one vehicle speeding in more than one direction? Does it take pictures of more than one vehicle at a time? This is a simple cash cow and I am sick of my taxes going to pay for this crap. They can catch me enjoying a smooth road and give me a ticket, but can't catch the people that break into my car and destroy my stuff? C*cksm*kers.

SplineZ
its not mobile photo radar.. Its mobile "radar"

This Radar system uses the "dopler" effect. It works by determining the difference in frequentcy between the "original" radar signal (sent by the gun), and the "bounced" radar signal (off your car).

If, for example, I was speeding, how would they catch me? They can't prove anything. What a joke this thing is....

How about you explain your statement, I'm confused by what you said.

Glenn 328is
Sorry. For some reason I thought there was a camera involved. I understand now...

bomberman
I got stopped at both of those checkstops and I was really happy to see them. I too hate photo radar and I felt that the checkstops might stop some drunk drivers of the road that night.

Also, i "heard" that the cars that have the mobile radar need to radio to an upcoming police car who will pull me and ticket me.
Is this correct?

rexxrally
No, the mobile radar vehicles are police ghost cars, with police driving them. They can pull you over themselves.
