| Thinking about purchasing a rx7 turbo II, saw one in the trader for 5300, and one for 5900. I was just wondering since i'm new to the rotary and rx7's what are some problems in these cars? beside the engines needing to be rebuilt after a certain amount of kms. and are these cars hard to maintain? |

They are easy to maintain...
...main thing though - YOU HAVE TO 'actually' MAINTAIN THEM!!
They are quick, high reving cars that have better handling than most cars (99%)
Power vs Money - AWESOME CARS.....
And the Rx7 Club is awesome!! Rx7 owners are a 'tight' group, we all help each other with technical problems when they occur.
Once you go rotary.... nothings the same!! |

All of the above are true.
If you want a trouble free RX-7, it is best to buy one where you KNOW it has been maintained well.
After buying this meticulously maintained RX-7, take it to an RX-7 specialty shop (might I recommend Abbey Road Automotive :) ) and ask them to check it over for anything that needs to be fixed/replaced.
Fix & replace all the old & worn out parts.
Then if you plan on modifying it, DO YOUR RESEARCH before you buy & install.
The RX-7 was designed by Mazda as a well balanced & integrated car. If you change one thing, there will be something else that has to be changed to maintain the "balance" or risk a dead engine (this applies 100% to power mods)
The main things on a TurboII that do not need upgrading 90% of the time are:
-Brake calipers (front 4pots are really good)
-Oil cooler (larger than almost all aftermarket oil coolers)
-Transmission/rear end (I believe it can handle up to 500whp with no problems)
-Stock engine fan (pulls WAY more air than any aftermarket electric fan)

More fuel before more boost!
FCD! Boost gauge (a good one), turbo timer (or wait like I used to).
RX7 TII is the BEST car I've ever owned. Hands down. (I've had turbo DSM's, new Eclipses etc), but nothing as nice as my TII. |

FuelCutDefencer (FCD) should only be used if you plan on boosting more than stock AND if you have the proper fuel mods to support the add'l boost
fuel mods:
fuel pump, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel controller (safc/standalone) and a good porting of the stock wastegate |

it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask one or 2 of the RX-7 guys to come out & check the TII's with you
Even someone with basic knowledge & owns an RX-7 will know what to look out for, what kind of questions to ask, etc

| thanks guys. i'm thinking between a rx7 or something that seats more than 2 like a EG hatch or something cuz i need to drive my grandparents around once in awhile so can't really do that with a rx7. but if i do go check out a rx7 i'll give you guys a shout. |

if you want backseats, might I suggest an AE86 (1986-87 Toyota Corolla)
otherwise there aren't many other cars out there that have 4 seats and can perform as well as an RX-7 in its stock form. |
