| what about the ones that take place in japan prior to the car being shipped so that it can be verified that it's in good mechanical order does anyone know? |
|
|
| redbaron303 |
It is not typical that we have a car inspected before or after purchase in Japan. The service is available with a little difficulty as it usually is not our business to service the car but to import it. To date we have not had an inspection performed in Japan and have found that they are typically not needed, thus because we have not done this I can not quote an exact price at this point. The auction sheets and our exporters advice/knowledge have been good enough for us to buy all of our cars to date.

I read this on your site...
quote: 1.4 Registration
Customs provides a Vehicle Import Form for registering your vehicle when it is cleared. Once you have passed your province or territory's requirements for bringing in an out-of-province vehicle, you must submit the Vehicle Import Form to your registrations office to register the vehicle for the first time. This is the only difference in registering your imported vehicle, it should not cost more than a regular registeration. Be sure to contact your registries office to find out what the out-of-province requirements are for your province or territory before importing
So, if i buy a car, what else will I have to do to register it in Alberta? What are those requirements? |
|
|
| redbaron303 |
In Alberta once the vehicle arrives you'll need to pass our out of province inspection. It's basically a safety inspection and a list of certified OOP inspection stations is available from the local DMV. THe passing of this inspection (or anything related in another province) is up to the customer, this means that if they deam you need new tires or a strut then it will need to be replaced before the car passes the inspection. At the point it passes the inspection you take your certification, the proper documentation from customs, and a bill of sale (and your insurance) to the DMV and they'll proceed in registering the car for the first time in Alberta.
This whole process took about a week to be completed when I registered and insured one of our Silvia's over winter. It took this long b/c I had to book an appointment with the dealer for the inspection, replace a strut on my car, and proceed to have it reinspected (they do this at no charge) so it would pass the inspection. It took the people registering the car at the DMV about 10 minutes to do that once the car was OOP, and my insurance agent took about the same amount of time to get me pink slips.
Hopefully this response has somewhat helped. |

If you're referring to the white Silvia on the IC site, the cracked front splitter has been repaired and repainted.

| I think esthetic damage will depend on the mechanic certifieing the vehicle :dunno: That would be a good question to ask the people that you take your cars to for inspections. I've never known a lil esthetic damage to fail an inspection, unless it's caused severe and noticable structurale damage, but then again I'm not the one looking at the cars and the gov't has gotten "reserved" on this issue too... If you're wondering who does the out of province inspections, AMA offers a list of qualified individuals/agencies/garages/etc that can do this. |

| did this effect your silvia in vancouver? ...as the bumper cover was damaged when it came over and now repaired ... was small ...but still did the BC inspections note that at all ? even the other silvia that went to victoria but was inspected here was a little rough in the front and was that noted .....I dont think so right ? |
|
|
| redbaron303 |
| The one in Vancouver did have bumper damage, no it did not affect the inspection in BC (and BC inspections are harder to pass than ours). The other white Silvia we had had some paint defects on the front bumper but nothing that affected the Alberta or BC inspections it had to pass. |

Thank you for the reply!
Also, how long will it take to get a legal vehicle here? (I read your importing questions etc on the webpage).
Maybe I missed it?
(Ie, I pay you today, how long till I see a already legal car here in Edmonton?) |

Which listed car has the most HP, for the cheapest price on your broker listing? :)
Sorry, had to ask. :)
(If someone knows, or can tell me, which car should make the most HP).
I'm thinking it's the JDM RX7 Turbo right? |
|
|
| MoxMonkey |
bah hp, control of a car is far more sexy than sheer power but a supra turbo or a rx7 turbo would prob be a good bet for hp/$ ratio
cool thx for askin questions i was gonna ask but now dont have to :) |
|
|
| redbaron303 |
Even the Skyline GTS-T, GTR's, and fairlady z twin turbo's are known to be able to make lots of power, however that power comes with a price tag (if you do aftermarket).
I think powerwise, one of the better bangs for bucks (including maintanence/daily driving) would be the MKIII Supra or FC3S Turbo II.... But that's just my opinion.
Typically it's about a month to get the car here from when it's paid for in Japan, however there have been delays on shipping vehicles for up to two additional months causing the arrival time to be close to three months into Edmonton so the car can be on the road. This is not something we can control currently, as the people at the shipping company typically fill the RORO boats w/ the new vehicle order first and the remaining spaces are delegated to the used cars. The shipment we picked up in December had 51 used cars on it and something like 2000+ new cars. We do try to get them here as fast as possible though, and once it's landed depending on how fast you get it inspected and prepared for road use (insurance/reg) then she'll be good to go. |
