| Say for instance once a deal is struck on a car in broker stock, how long does it actually take to ship from Japan to here and have the car in my grubby little hands? |

Typically it's about a month to get the car here from when it's paid for in Japan, however there have been delays on shipping vehicles for up to two additional months causing the arrival time to be close to three months into Edmonton so the car can be on the road. This is not something we can control currently, as the people at the shipping company typically fill the RORO boats w/ the new vehicle order first and the remaining spaces are delegated to the used cars. The shipment we picked up in December had 51 used cars on it and something like 2000+ new cars. We do try to get them here as fast as possible though, and once it's landed depending on how fast you get it inspected and prepared for road use (insurance/reg) then she'll be good to go.

I was going to say that looks familiar..... I could have sworn I wrote that ;)
But yes, it's just unfortunate that shipping can not be fully guaranteed for the ETA, sometimes things come up that are unpreventable for the vessels to deal with such as bad weather or too many new cars. But it's all good I guess :D |

| Why wait for them to stock when you can pick one up at auction for the same price. Most go for under 100,000 JPY. :) |

Once it's off the boat here what's the process? How long does it take to get it off the boat and to here?
Out of province inspection not included. Do you pick it up from the dock or from a Customs location? I imagine you couldn't just show up and drive it to Edmonton without dealing with Customs at the port. |

| to my understanding u need insurance to drive the car and for inssurace u need an out of province inspection which leads me to believe yuor best bet is to get it trucked right to a inspection place. in your town. |

You don't need an out of province inspection to get insurance. You can insure the vehicle but can't register it until it is inspected.
My question was more to do with what happens after it is rolled off the ship.
Doesn't Customs have to inspect it for foreign soil, etc... or is that taken care of before it departs Japan?
The one vehicle I saw here was all undercoated with something and all the undercarriage bolts had been marked with yellow paint. Was that done here or oversea? |
