Any electronic store carries them.
I have 2 sets, i.e. 4.
they are dirt cheap.
Often on sale (future shop, radio shack) for $30-80/pair depending on channels, rechargable batteries, other features.
They are very handy for many different things. Great for car cruises, skiing on the hill, outdoor stuff, VOX activated and a headset is very nice for paintball :)
I get alot of use of them when using them, but most of the time they sit in a drawer. i.e. very handy if you need them, but that isn't too often for me at least. |

Nop they are not all the same,
Usualy they have 16 channles then have 16 or 12 sub channles.
The first is a band and the second is frequency usualy a very small increase or decrease within the band, this allows for more users on the civilian band.
Only problem I have with it is that "anyone" can monitor all 16 bands and subchannles, if you know how.
So if we dont have a specific lets go on like 12:6 or something.

driving around town, if some of the cars get stopped at a light and the others go on through, you can help meet up.
or if your tire were to blow out, you can let your buddies know.
maybe on a road trip, when there are three or four cars going, and you gotta piss...
stuff like that
but honestly, i think most people just fuck around and tell their friends to check out the hottie in the pink skirt or the viper in the other lane. |
