Average price: '89 Toyota Supra TT - Click HERE for Original Thread

Dameon
Hey I'm new to this forum / site, I'm just wondering if someoen can tell me how much I could expect to pay for a '89 supra TT in an auction. Not counting broker fees or any of that kind of extra fee.

Just for the car with a 1jz engine.

The 1JZ Supra's don't come out until the summer of 2005. On the other hand, if you want a 1G-GTE twin turbo Supra, they are dirt cheap, expect to pay 100,000 - 200,000 JPY (at auction) for a mint one.

2,488.60 Canadian dollars (200, 000 yen) wow... sounds unbelievable.

Approx. $5k total for broker fees, exporter, shipping etc... wow lol.

Uhmm, does anyone have the engine specs of the twin turbo 1G-GTE engine...?

I know the specs of the 7m-GTE and the 7m-GE along with 1JZ and 2JZ... so that might help make the spec list a little easier / comparable.

And also... is the 1G-GTE common to head gasket problems as well...?

Also... how hard is a conversion from a 1G-GTE to a 1JZ? 1JZ's swap right into a MKII so is the same story with a MKIII 1G-GTE? I'm not entirley dissatisfied with the engines performance (ive been looking aorund a bit) but the 1JZ is much more appealing. It's a lot more "aftermarket" and the 2.0 1G kind of turns me off.

There are two generations of 1G-GTE, the earlier one puts out 185hp and the later one's put out 210hp. We had a 185hp version in our Soarer (I believe) and it dyno'd 148hp to the wheels.

Yamaha helped with the 1G engine design, and I don't think they had head gasket problems like 7M did.

If you're going to swap a 1JZ into a 1G-GTE car, you'd be better off getting a complete clip with the crossmember and transmission mounts.

Some of the 1G-GTE Supra's we've had in the broker's stock had price tags of $4500-5000.

Alright... thanks for the info..

Just a few more questions

I've been reading around about doing a 1jz / 2jz swap into a MKIII and i've heard left hand driving cars run into problems with the V160 tranny fitting into the tunnel for the swap...

Also what kind of crossmember does the 1G supra have...? is it the round one?

mx73someday
I am unsure on the differences between the crossmembers, I just assumed they all had different ones, this is where my knowledge on the subject runs out.

any ideas on how fast these TT's run the 1/4? and aftermarket suport? they only got mk3 turbos in canada right? not TTs?

there was a DAM sweet supra on the block the other day... nice blue (looked like RSP) and classy deep dish wheels. wonder what it sold for :D

The 3.0L single Turbo is the highest end version. If I'm not mistaken, the TT is the lowest model there. But its also the lightest ...

Regardless, its my understanding the 3.0L Turbo (which is identical to the Supra Turbo we got here) is the faster car in stock trim.

Did Japan even get the 3.0L NA?

The 2.0 liter twin turbo might run a low 16 quarter mile. It makes some decent power, it's just that the car is so damn heavy. I think the aftermarket support is decent for that engine, there are alot of universal parts that will help you turn up the fuel and boost. Exhaust, suspension and brakes should all be the same as the 3.0 liter Supra.

One thing to note is that they also made two bodies for the Mk III Supra, a wide body and a regular body, all North American Mk III's are wide body.

There is also the 2.5 liter twin turbo Mk III (1JZ) that becomes legal next year, I would argue that this is a better engine to modify than the 3.0 7M-GTE, even with the smaller displacement.
