It was really odd to look at the stands during the game. At first glance it looks like a bunch of empty red seats, but when you realize that those are all the new red home jerseys you get some idea of how crazy that city has gone.
I say good for them! I'd prefer to see any Canadian team in the finals instead of any American team. |

its funny cause the seats are green and yet the place is RED RED RED
I totally wanted them to win. I even wanted them to beat Van. I want to see calgary in the finals and maybe even with a cup! that would be uber pimp cause it shows it can be done (they have basically the same budget as us).
(i was born in cow town so maybe thats why i like them) but if it was oilers or flames, fuck them, oil all the way! |

if your a fan of hockey, there IS no bandwagon....well, if there is, its just one big one
not jumping on the FLAMES bandwagon...just dotn want an american team to win with a payroll the size of our country!
Thanks to the flames, Vancouver looks like they're dismantling their team and so is Detroit! ....Who'll want to pick up those high priced players with the collective bargaining agreement in the wings? doubt anyone would.... |

the term "RIVALRY" must be used loosely around here.
the battle of alberta
oiler vs. flames
the battle of ontario
ottawa vs. toronto
one of hockeys oldest
toronto vs. montreal
when the oil' play the flames, its a passionate game because the players and fans hate eachother, but yet so as the flames do well, we suddenly love them? makes me sick.
i cheer for the leafs and oilers, always have, always will. therefore you learn to hate the rivals (montreal, ottawa, calgary). So jumping on the bandwagon would be me cheering for one of the teams that i never cheer for, just because they are the only canadian team left? i think the dollars and cents of a small market team advancing in the playoffs is great, but you will never catch me cheering for the rivals , regardless if there facing each other in the cup or whatever.
look at soccer in europe, they shure as hell dont cheer for the rivals, they brawl them in the stands. just like a stamps' and eskies' game. |

You're using the "rational" soccer fans in Europe to bolster your point?
Frankly I couldn't give two shits about the NHL and all the whiny crybaby prima donnas with their big salaries that wont go into the corners to muck it up unless they will get an extra 10k per game for doing so.
The only hockey I have really been paying attention to was the WHL, where one of my best friend's little brother plays goal for Medicine Hat. They just swept the final round over the Everett Silvertips and are on their way to the Memorial Cup. Those games will be televised and they'll be alot more entertaining than the NHL bullshit.

so what your saying is your friends brother is one step away from being a "whiny crybaby prima donna with a big salary" playing in every hockey players dream, the NHL. hmmmmmm  |
|

Pretty much, but at this point they are still busting their asses at that level and producing some of the most exciting hockey to watch. With the impending lockout next year there is a man tendering a $5million offer to all WHL teams that may be interested in playing at Rexall next season. From what I hear this is WAY above market value for even the best teams, but this guy figures some "semi-big-league" hockey is better than no hockey at all.
