do you have a problem with the stock seat belt sitting too high and rubbing up against your neck?

Nis240

yeah because thats smart to do on the street

My recaro SRD fits very well in the car and I fit well in it. In combination with the stock restraints it's a great combination and i have no complaints with rubbing or anything.

I feel safer in my recaro with a 4 point than the stock seat with the stock belt.

I feel sorry for other drivers around you.

How do you like shoulder checking or even adjusting your radio etc ?

Mustard
:drama:
i don't know about you, but i don't need to turn my head 180 degrees to shoulder check...

I turn my head with my shoulders flat, about 90 degrees and let my EYES do the rest...
You're checking you're blind spot, not behind you.. thats what mirrors are for.

Most people don't shoulder check at all, so calm down, let him use his 4-point if he wants.
If he FEELS safer, so be it... is he? probably not, but the only way we'll know is if you run him through the same exact collision twice, one with a regular seatbelt, once with 4 points.

edit: yeah yeah, i know it's against the law, save yer flames.

I can shoulder check just fine, as long as i dont do up the shoulder straps tight, but with a little slack in the shoulder strap (About 2.5 inches of deflection) i can reach the radio and heat controls and most other important controls.

Do you have a racing seat with 4 point, to be making assumptons??

Not making assumtions, but for a harness to do its intended job it is supposed to be tight, not loose. But whatever floats your boat.

So let me get this straight you would feel safer in a 3 point belt than a 4 point if you spun out in your car and hit a concrete divider doing..............120 km/h. It seems like what your saying is that you have to be in a car with a full cage, neck brace and on a track for a 4 point harness or greater to be more effective than a factory 3 point.

harnesses and neckbraces have their places. At the track. Just like you are retarded to drive in a car with a roll bar or a cage that is not padded without a helmet.

redbaron303
Is it not also supposed to be harder for the EMS to dig your corpse out of the mangled car when you're in a race harness versus a normal seatbelt? Rumours I've heard.

I will however use my stock restraints on the street, they're there for a reason and will still most likely save my life in the event of a crash, while saving me the tickets from the EPS for not maintaining stock safety equipment (or using it or whatever they classify the ticket as). I've been in a few cars using 4pt system on the street and I found it uncomfortable for daily driving and their stock belt better suited for bumping throw traffic. Guess that's my opinion on the situation.

JeffZ28
4 point, or 5 or 6 ones too, ususally have a quick release, making it probably easier to remove you from your car.

Also where in the hell would you be doing 120 kmph where you COULD spin out and hit a concrete barrier?
unless your being a fucktard already and street racing even more unsafe then it already is.

a bar is unsafe on the street, cause if a car hits you it can be an extra very hard object that can be pushed into your body.
a crash on the street is VERY different then on the track.

with a cage and the 5 point the only time on the street I wouldnt be wearing the stock belt is when I go to the mountain for some "spirited" driving.
but I would probably put my helmet on for that.

PS. did you know that if you wear your helmet while driving cops will follow you and everyone will stare :dunno:

Fact: With a 4 Point Harness, in the event of a vehicle rollover, you will not be able to "duck" or "dodge" the collapsing roof, all you'll be able to do is watch the roof, then feel feel it. A 3 point will let you dodge to the side somewhat. That is why they designed it.

Fact: In order to gain the full benefits and safety of a 4 + point harness system, you should run a roll cage thereby eliminating the above problem.

Fact: When you utilise a 4 point harness, you should have it tight. Ever watch rally racers strap themselves in? the only thing that moves on them is the head, arms, and legs, nothing else.

Fact: If you're doing 120 in the city, you're a moron.

Fact: If you hit a concrete pillar at 120, I call it natural selection.

REFLUX
as for the original question, there isn't much you can do to lower the seatbelt so it doessn't rub your neck

I have no problem with the seatbelt rubbing against my neck:)

dont think its illegal cause htey are DOT approved... but they think you are up to something.
I'm never been pulled over cause of it, but I was followed for a good 15 minutes.

SplineZ

First of all it is easier to undo a 4 point because all you do is pull a strap and everything comes apart.

"Where would you be doing 120 that you could hit a concrete barrier" WTF are you on crack go to Europe and see waht i mean there high ways and freeway are all divided with concrete barriers.

Who the fuck said anything about street racing

BlueTurboegg

Next time i see you at an NECC meet i will let you sit in my car and see that there is enough movement for your head to duck if a rollover were to happen.
I would like to eventually get a cage but that is currently not in the cards.
If the only way that a harness works is when it is suffocating tight them every manufacture should recall their vehicle because there is quite a bit of movement with the stock seat belts.
Who the fuck said anything about doing 120 in the city ( I saw you in your NX last year on castle downs road and it didnt look like you were doing nor intending to do the posted speed limit of 60 KM/H)
" Fact: If you hit a concrete pillar at 120, I call it natural selection."
Natural selection... eh i guess that only imature people that are street racing hit things at 120 kmh

FocusTunerzx3
If i had a 4 point harness on id make sure my car had a rollcage too. Then i wouldnt have to worry about a roof collapsing now would I.

5 and 6 points have a "latch" pull it and its open. idiot proof.. I think you might be able to figure it out after having someone read you the instruction.

Sorry I didnt know you took your car on vacation to europe all the time.
If you on the highway and wipe out into a barrier your stupid and it is natural selection.

you said befor

to me that means your using it on the street for street racing.

"eh i guess that only imature people that are street racing hit things at 120 kmh"

I dont even know where to start with this. you should have said
"Only imature people street race and put other people at risk by their stupid action and WHEN they crash its a joyous day because the gene pool is a little bit cleaner"

Noone, but you said:

And since we are talking about the safety of 3 vs 4 on the street where else are you going to do 120 and nail a divider?

That's just it, The stock 3 points don't lock up unless they are jerked really hard somewhat, other than that, they are basically free and sprung with enough tension to always be resting against your body. There is an additional part you can purchase to add on to the shoulder anchor for 4 points, 6 points, etc. that will do the same thing. It allows roughly 10" of play, but when you tug on it suddenly, it locks up.

We were talking about the safety of stock 3 point vs 4 point harnesses on the street as instigated by mwguy:

I'm just merely trying to continue on that thought.

I never said I don't drive fast, but for the record, there are alot of people who "don't look like they were doing the posted speed limit"

Not neccessarily. I can hit bugs on the highway at 120kms/h :D

It's not that I look down on you for what you're doing with your seat belts, that's you're business and I don't mind debating it with you, you make your case and I make mine, is that not a fair and gentlemanly exchange?

Just don't seek my approval, it's impossible to get. ;)

I'd argue with the Cop "Isn't wearing a helmet making my driving experience MORE safe???"

Everyone wears a helmet when biking or blading, what about driving?!...
