So we all know about the garbage can photo radar units right...now they are testing this Can-Cam out in the Park   Can-Cam picture and article

POX
money money money.......money

PraxRX7
Yea and with the can-cam its even easier to spot the photo radar...so if you are a good driver and paying attention you won't get hit with the photo radar...cause a good driver doesnt speed

ChromeDragon
You think that with that they aren't going to have some guys with huge old trucks jumping curbs and smashing them to shit? I fully agree with the use of photo radar, but this is just going to cost a ton of money when idiots start trashing them.

Flex
Theres still gonna be the manned van only a few feet away so anyone trashing them will get caught.

I'd rather have a photo radar ticket then a regular ticket anyday but hiding them even more like this is getting a bit much I think.

92_J
haha...I was totaly just thinking about something like that drivin down 34th St...I always look to the right lookin for photo...then I thought man I they were smart they'd set up goin the other way cuz i never look to the left side along that section of 34th

TheNeonEdge
If you had a pickup and a guy in the back and lass-eod {sp} one of those things, haha imagine that.
they only weigh 100lbs.

Still, its getting ridiculous, soon they will have it on every intersection light in the city. ;)

The funny apart about the article is that they believe slower speeds equal a safer street. Another reason not to live in the communist state of sherwood park.

silverTEG
dont speed, then you dont have to worry...............

SlowAzzPorsche911T
sometimes it's natural.. like peeing in a cop car's gas tank

What does lower speeds have to do with Communism? I'm failing to see the connection.....:dunno:

dsm112
whats the old guy in the van gonna do when ppl trash it?

silvia s13
The law requires that the operator be close enough to "see" the infraction, that opens up a whole new can of worms. I have seen some St. Albert operators sleeping. I think we should carry around cameras from now on to try and catch one of those operators. Imagine you were contesting a ticket in court with a picure of a driver of the photo radar van sound asleep. Any judge would be bound to dismiss the ticket. Matter of fact i would call into question the whole photo radar cash grab. There must be reasons why BC and Ontario have banned them.

MeXx
o hope someone hits it with a truck stupid pos

I think he's comparing the oppression that follows with communism (in practice), with being forced to drive slower.

ChromeDragon
LoL, nobody is forcing you to do anything. Speed all you want, but you're going to pay.

And I was not aware that the photo radar operator had to be watching the vehicles being tagged. Very rarely do you even see the person in the front seat when you go by the vans. I have heard many stories about the people sleeping in the back of them as they are "operating" the photo radar though. I'll be sure to keep an eye out in the future. Nothing pisses me off more than people being paid to do a job and sleeping while on duty. There are hundreds of others that would love to have their job if they aren't willing to do it.

I haven't a photo radar ticket since photo radar was introduced to Edmonton, but I prefer not to modify my safe driving habits just because a municipality can't come up with another way of making money.

silvia s13
I've had 2 photo tickets and avoided them 100's of times. Maybe this is because of the people flashing their lights to warn me or because they are all new, clean, ford vans (exept for St. Albert...we got a blazer too:cool: ) or because they park in the same spots. Half the time I see a photo van, it is in the middle of no where, like 5 feet from the road..WTF. :dunno: WE ARN'T STUPID "Oh dear...look, that mother must be having van problems" I have been driving for almost 5 years now, I speed, but only when safe to do so. I have always had a clean driving record. In 5 years, I am willing to pay for 2 tickets, because I have saved I don't know how much time speeding.

ChromeDragon
See I have had 3 photo radar tickets since I started driving and that's it. 2 of them were kinda iffy, the third was kinda borderline(83km/h on the Yellowhead). The first one of the iffy ones came on a street where the speed limit is 60 in one direction and 50 in the opposite direction. The second was in a regular 60 zone that had construction barricades set up, but there was nobody working in the construction zone at about 8pm. Both of those tickets were at 68km/h. Yes I was speeding, yes I paid them. I'm one of the few people that understands why radar traps are necessary with a municipal government as disorganized as ours.

and quebec, and NB, and the list goes on

silvia s13
good to know

SilverBullet85
people arent going to learn by photo radar, give them demerits, sooner or later they'll be more careful, and speeding isnt the problem, not paying attention on the road is worse, or having a car thats smoking blue and about to fall apart is worse, in my opinion, careles drivers get away scots free if the follow the speed limit, WTF is that
